In the only case I am familiar with, from the first sign of trouble until death was a mere 45 minutes.
After a person dies, the rest of the party could move on, particularly a small family. It would be interesting to know if the bladder had any water in it. I figure an adult could make it the last mile to the car, even with the load of a child. Or, the other adult would be in a different location, succumbing while on their way out. The child was a toddler? If so, they might've wandered off slightly after both parents died. Certainly the dog would've moved along, but perhaps returned to sleep by their side.
This entire event is perplexing, and it is turning out to be that even for the professionals that have access to more details and more science.

I would think in the case of heat stroke, there would be some indication of distress at the scene, assuming the adults didn't succumb with absolute simultaneity.

No dead animals were found near the river and/or trail (reason for excluding CO2). If the algae was so toxic as to kill 2 adults, a baby, and a dog on-the-spot, wouldn't they have found dead animals around the river?

However, while hot, the temperatures were pretty typical for this location and the family was well prepared for a full day of hiking. Investigators found plenty of water with the family. Not what I was told by someone in SAR in the area. He said they had one bladder for the whole day, and there was very little water in it. Now that fact that they still had "a little water in it" might be interpreted to mean they were hydrated. But if two adults, a one-year old, and a dog hiked for five hours or so in 100 degree weather with only 1.5 liters of water, they were dehydrated, whether there was water in the bladder or not.

I’m starting to think it was an alien attack If you had actually started to think, you wouldn't make tasteless asinine comments like this. You're not funny.

I saw on my phone that they concluded severe dehydration.

I saw on my phone that they concluded severe dehydration. Sounds like to me they were forced to choose something. Severe dehydration.... everyone including the dog?? Yeah.. Ok.

Hyperthermia was listed as the cause, in the write up I saw. Heat exhaustion, leading to heat stroke? All 4? OK, so I could buy either adult and the child, but the other adult? The dog is the real wild card IMO. I would think even a domesticated animal would wander off to find water.

Yeah, that does not resolve all my puzzlement. On the other hand, 85 ounces of water is not much for 2 adults and a child in those conditions. Excepts from CNN:

Yeah, that does not resolve all my puzzlement. The only thing that would help me with that is a detailed diagram of the bodies at the scene.
