I have to say (and not to anyone in particular) that I really dislike the way words like "self-absorbed" and "greedy" are slipping into sweeping comments. Many families are making really difficult decisions. There may be mistakes and you may not agree with some of them but I don't know these self-righteous attitudes help anyone. And I'm not talking about the obvious bad behaviors.

A couple other thoughts are we do not have all the science when it comes to COVID spread and its various effects. Probably the most dense US neighborhood, the borough of Manhattan, has only half the COVID cases than the more suburban Queens according to the latest. Density is obviously a factor but it’s not the only factor. Access to healthcare and, importantly, mistrust of medical billing (which can be an rural, too) seem to be driving a lot of urban/dense suburb severe hospitalizations and deaths = too many wait to see a doctor. time.com/5815820/data-new-york-low-income-neighborhoods-coronavirus/Also all rural areas are not alike. Some may be a little more well heeled with a shortage of almond multigrain croissants, whereas other are poor rural seeing food pantries run out as elderly volunteers have to stop manning the storefront anyways. www.cbsnews.com/news/coronavirus-pandemic-puts-strain-on-people-relying-on-food-banks/

I have a first hand experience with our small town hospital being overwhelmed. Two years ago, close to Memorial Day weekend, my husband had to go to the emergency room. Mule Days was just starting, with more than half of the visitors yet to arrive. The ER was full, but my husband's condition was so bad that they had to remove a patient from their room to make way for him. He was supposed to be flown out but the weather was too bad to go to Reno. So he had to spend the night in the ICU. He stabilized with drugs and was moved to a regular room. All rooms were full at that point. All with the holiday just starting. With the influx of visitors, also comes the increase in heart attacks, broken limbs, vehicle accident injuries, etc. This is without the virus.

Something that needs to be looked at until widespread therapeutics (vaccine the best) can nullify CV, but then there’s the highways. Really thinking about concentrating on my road biking the next couple years frankly.
