While house sparrows arent beloved in the bird world, this baby is undeniably cute! Winner in the “ugly-cute” division!

Winner in the “ugly-cute” division! Looks like its underside is blowing upward from a draft below, but this ugly-cute chick doesn't exactly remind me of Marilyn Monroe standing over a subway grate in her summer dress.

The other day was rather cold so very few people about and I was out during the low tide. That allowed me to get closer to the Godwits to take some closer photos. They are endangered so we are lucky to have them here. my next challenge is to capture the swift parrots, another endangered bird that winters here. Face Boiok ( !) reminded me that I took my first photos of one a year ago.
The swift parrot is one of the only three migratory parrots and the fastest parrot in the world. One from last year

Our most colourful birds are in the desert areas and up North. Down here, Melbourne, we get the paler versions. I am reminded of that most days looking at the FB Australian Bird page.

I hate to be "that guy", but this looks like a Lincoln's Sparrow to me. It is certainly a beautiful photo.

My wife is fond of reminding me of how many sparrows (that are not sparrows at all) I see. So now I try to point the lens to some just to see what they are.

Some here will probably know that I have an interest in tents as well as birds. Something that often has me puzzled is when people comment that "this tent looks exactly like..." when they do not at all, to me. But the same thing of course happens with birds with people that are not familiar with them. Here , for example, several people have told me of how they have just seen an owl. So I show them "the owl" on the screen of my camera. Like this one and yes, that is the one. It happens to be an Australian Kite.

Another funny photo. This lorikeet looks like it's trying its best to fit into the frame. Today we saw two kestrels. This is N3 eating a bird. She had a good look at what I was doing but then went back to eat.
