This mornining two different members posted a photo of a starling in the local bird forum asking what it was. The reason is that this VERY common ,here, introduced pest looks just like a dull black blob in the distance and nothing at all like it does on clear close up shots.

I took this photo yesterday because the sea was like a mirror for a while. That is at the end of our street and across a small park /recreation area. Continuing on the beachfront to the right we get into the park where I take most of my photos.

Yesterday it looked like rain was coming so I took a compact , weatherproof, camera with me. A flame robin was about, so I shot it. There are red robins, scarlet and flame , with the red bit getting larger from the first to the last. (many other colours too...) possibly the same bird with a different cameras a couple of days earlier
BTW, the colour changes with the light, so as it moves from shade to full sun it does look like a flame chnging from orange to deep red. Some of that can be seen in the two photos.

A couple of funny photos amongst those taken in the last two days. Pelican to Royal Spoonbill : you are very small for a Royal ! Super Secret VIP Black Swan protected by its body guards

This is how I amuse myself. These two photos are meant to show how the mood changed with this two parakeets before and after they spotted me...

another one from yesterday. This looks like it has a mask filling the background (that is when you replace the background with something else) but it is just the very still out of focus water giving that effect. Egret over calm waters.

One that I took yesterday. I think it's very topical, I called this shot "look the other way "

Thanks to all who've posted photos. I'm enjoying them all, and have been wondering where the birds are in my area. Then this morning I heard but couldn't see a cardinal probably not more than 25 feet away, in a neighbor's tree. This afternoon I spotted a mourning dove about 30' up in a dying tree. (Good thing I had my cataracts removed or I might have thought it was a fat twig.)

Once you spend some time looking for them you will discover (as I did...) that not all birds that look like sparrows or pigeons are . Walking about, my wife " what is that ?" Me : that is a sparrow. (then ,after looking through the lens) No, wait a minute... The other point is that taking photos (or looking through good binos) you often get to see details and colours you do not see with your eyes. For example the starling I posted above and, if you click on the cormorant photo to get the full size, you will see that the black cormorant has blue eyes.

Another shot of a welcome swallow. They look like a black and white bird darting around but when sitting still their true colours come out

A fun photo. I called this "Too windy for fishing" from the day before (could be the same Great Egret, there are 4 around there at the moment)
