I am not the photographer (found this pic of swans on the internet) but thought it was worth sharing and starting a thread where others can share pics of beautiful birds.

driftwoody , could you please check to see if that photo is legal to share? Or at least if you can find attribution? It’s a gorgeous shot and a good idea. Baby wekas on the Milford Track

driftwoody , Beautiful doesn't even begin to describe the swans, in such a picturesque, Swan Lake balletic setting. rebeccad , those little chicks are soooo adorable, so furry and cuddleable (is that a word?).

Here's a black vulture in Michaux State forest back in October. Had good luck with him posing when I was there.

Or at least if you can find attribution? rebeccad kind of implied it with that question, but it is worth pointing out that posting copyrighted images from the net can cause trouble for the forum owners. The climbing forum I used to frequent (Supertopo) was apparently shut down due to posters putting up copyrighted images. It only takes one angry artist whose work has been hijacked to file lawsuits.

Well, for what it's worth (and I don't know if it makes a difference), clicking on driftwoody's photo does take you to the original.

Actually I downloaded the OP picture and Google images allows you to use the image as the search. Turns out that image is all over the web. I couldn't find any attribution to any of them. It may be copyrighted but there are a lot of copies of it out there.

So this week has been an amazing week for my wife & I for owl spotting. In just a 40 km drive east of town, we found 2 Northern Hawk Owls and 3 Northern Pygmy Owls. To put the Pygmy Owl day in perspective ... in the past 30 years of driving the region, we've only ever spotted 2 NPOs along the road (seen a few more around home and on trail, but only 2 driving in the past 30 years). This was one of the days that I was glad I had my big heavy 800mm lens along!

It may be copyrighted but there are a lot of copies of it out there. I meant to do that, and had a hunch that was what we’d find. Short of using a watermark, you can’t stop it. Once one person copies and reposts a photo without attribution, it’s all over. I hope the photographer is an amateur who can just enjoy having his/her work shared and admired so extensively!

And a lot of gorgeous birds here! I need to get into my husband’s photos to get good bird photos. He’s the one with the killer lens.

I've been admiring all the photos; there's so much detail, expressing the grace and beauty of our little and larger feathered friends. The symmetry of the little "circles" on the peacock's feathers is so impressive; reminds me of fractals in flowers, leaves, ferns, and more. There's so much wonder in natural creatures and creations when we stop to think about it. I love the symmetry, and the order of things; it's almost a counterpart to the chaos of real life.
Perhaps that's its real purpose, if there is any.

It may be copyrighted but there are a lot of copies of it out there. I think that's one of the difficulties of enforcing copyright laws. There are so many people who either don't know about the issues, don't understand them, or don't care. Just copy and post it, and literally instantly there are dozens if not hundreds of violations. How could one seriously prosecute all of those infringements? Years ago I became aware of needleworkers, not pros, but just people who enjoyed it (especially cross-stitching) who felt free to copy and share designs with others. I doubt many of them even had knowledge that they were violating IP laws. And these days that number has probably exploded exponentially. That doesn't make it right though. I think the only way to prevent it is to create some kind of blocking on the initial posting. I don't recall right now on which forum it was, but it's a kayak racing forum. A photographer takes the official photos, posts them, but copying has been blocked so her IP rights seem protected. She sells the photos as well, so her income from them is also protected since no one else can copy and/or sell them, at least not from the website.
