Our backyard is an aspen forest...took these from our upper deck. Ruffed Grouse eating lunch (aspen buds): Boreal Owl hanging out (they are small about the size of a screech owl)

This is one of my favorite threads. The photos are so detailed; I enjoy seeing the design and structure of the feathers of the various birds. The ruffled grouse in alaskaskeeter 's photo has a beautifully intricate coat, inspirational for needlework. Fabric in that design would produce a lovely quilt.

A couple from the last few days... A condor. Of the Andean variety. Rufous-bellied seedsnipe, mother and chick. I need to edit up one of the better photos, but I never could get them to cooperate and both look up at the same time

yesterday I borrowed my wife's camera , a Panasonic FZ300. The reason why I mention this is because it is a much smaller, lighter and less expensive camera than the typical birder types but can still take a decent photo. This is the kestrel I call Bert, seen for the first time yesterday after several months. I think that she did recognise me because I was able to get closer to her than people passing by would. BTW, on my screen the image above and the one I get by clicking on the image are very different. Try it. (the other kestrels I have posted of late are N2 and N3)

I've resurected this thread to illustrate the part I I like the most taking bird pictures. That is when there is a bit of a story to it. This afternoon for the first time for a few weeks I spotted the pair of Litle Eagles flying together. About the size of a pixel in the distance but I knew them by their behaviour. About 15 minutes later we were looking at a kite eating a mouse on the top of a long-since disused lamp post (the park near our place used to be a rubbish dump) . As we were taking photos of it one of the Little Eagles came for a look.
