Thank you Rebecca. I post some almost everyday on my Face Fook page but i try not to post too many here. I do a walk around the nearby park almost every day. it's a migratory area but of course there are many resident birds too. One from yesterday, Royal Spoonbills and Ibis flying together.

yesterday I photographed another raptor, the sparrowhawke, that looks rather impressive in some photos but it is also very small in reality. Pretty much the same size as the kite above (pigeon size...) This photo should give a good idea of the real size

After a few weeks of so so weather, we now have had four days of sunshine with clear air too. The birds are back in numbers. Several types of finches are about but as usual a raptor made my day. This is one of a pair of Little Eagles that are often in the area. Its mate left before we got close to where they were hunting but this one flew over us for about 8 minutes (according to the data on my photos) . I was not able to get a single photo of it when it flew just over us, three times, but I got something. There were many people about, it's Sat morning here, but as usual no one else saw the bird. I suspect that is was the female, it is larger than the male. Their wingspan is about 4 feet.

Great thread! How have I missed this for so long? Well, for what it's worth (and I don't know if it makes a difference), clicking on driftwoody's photo does take you to the original. This is really no big deal, I think, but I really love using the photos you guys take as background on my PC, duly attributed in the file name, of course, so I don't 'redistribute' - that isn't much of a possibility in my case. I'm just enjoying what you guys have produced - they're gorgeous! The larger 'original size' is perfect for this.

A very dull day so we went for a quick walk with me taking the smaller/lighter of my 3 zooms. On the way back I spotted a flock of stilts and given a few days ago there were some Godwits with them I moved a bit closer and zoomed in. Yes , there were some Bar-Tailed Godwits there. This is one of the birds that comes here from Alaska and Siberia where they breed. It has the longest recorded single flight (non-stop) , 11,000 KM from Alaska to New Zealand. I like the way some stilts are looking at them ...

Another bird story. There are a few small flocks of quails (8-12) around the area we walk most days. So far they eluded me vanishing in the long grass before I have a chance to point my lens at them. Today a flock of 8 or so crossed my path so I stalked them , finally figuring out how they hide, and 10 minutes later I had a decent shot of one. Made my day. (yes, I sound like a train spotter ...)

These are great. I don't have a telephoto, so can't really share the bird sightings we saw in Lassen last week--Bald eagle, geese, grebes, ouzel, mountain bluebird, pelican, golden eagle, osprey....but I did get close enough to get THIS shot

I was taking photos of some corellas, first photo, when a bunch of cockatoos arrived to have a look. One wanted some attention too...

We have lots of black swans here but this pair is often seen apart from the rest. They are still very much in love. If I am by myself and I stand by the edge of the creek , the female ( to the left) comes close for a look.

While house sparrows arent beloved in the bird world, this baby is undeniably cute!

This photo of a sparrow was the one that caused me to leave a local bird forum. After posting the photo a moderator told me that I had to disclose the location, I replied that it was a sparrow, he came back saying that those are the rules, if I did not like them I should leave...I did. from yesterday this is a pair of red rumped parrots. A tree next to the one with the corellas that I posted above. in this photo of the male you get a glimpse of the red rump.
