Apparently he's having second thoughts. At least that's the way I see it regardless of reports of lacking permits, etc., etc.,etc Somebody explained that all the laughter he was hearing was at him and not with him....

Usually the ocean has too much movement but on really calm days you can see it at sea. Well, if you have a little ability to put 2 & 2 together, you can see it on any clear day from the bluffs by my house. From the top of the bluffs, look out and see the Farralon Islands. Then climb down to the beach, and note that you can now only see the very tops of said islands. The rest is below the horizon. Or stand on the shore pretty much anywhere and watch a ship steam over the horizon. But I guess it requires some reasoning skills to understand what you are seeing.

By Amy B Wang and Avi Selk at the WaPo got me to literally LOL with this excerpt from their article (emphasis mine):
Assuming the 500 mph, mile-long flight above the Mojave Desert does not kill him, Hughes told the Associated Press, his journey into the atmosflat will mark the first phase of his ambitious flat-Earth space program.

I’d think an airline ticket would be simpler. Or a GoPro camera with a SPOT (or I guess an iPhone with “Find my phone turned on...) tied to a helium balloon, but I won’t judge. Or he could buy an "around the world" trip. Either he'd end up where he started (round earth), or he'd run into the continuous ice wall that contains the oceans (flat earth).

OR he could “invest” in a road trip west towards the Rockies plus a sixth grade geometry text. Now you don’t see them, now you do.

I just love the fact that he doesn't believe in science, yet is trying to build a rocket.

I just love the fact that he doesn't believe in science, yet is trying to build a rocket. That’s actually very consistent with the “there’s nothing special about knowing stuff” approach that holds “Everyman” is just as good a cardio thoracic surgeon, or atmospheric weather researcher or legislator as someone with a “fancy” (meaning ANY) degree and training.

Who says space doesn't start at 1,900'? Given that I can breathe rather well at 1,900 feet, you can count me as one.

Trump said he was issuing a proclamation confirming the earth was kinda round, but is was flat before it was round and could very well be flat again if it were not getting rounder but that was before. A curvature committee was being formed to advise him on how much curvature there was before it was flat but then got rounder or flatter depending on what the committee finds.

So he crashed landed on the way down
Thus, he learned the earth is not flat, but it does have a hard surface.

I've been to 16,000' in my hang glider and ~37.000 in a jet aircraft and the earth still looks flat.
If he really wants's to prove the Earth is flat, than he needs to try and sail a ship off the edge of the sea, and video tape the "point of no return"
I do have to give him kudos for actually going through with it though.
