to answer wondermonkey's query " Assuming you had a different bike before this how did you feel when you made the transition?" The transition to a trike was easy. I had a back injury and was afraid to ride my road bike, so having back support and not being likely to fall over it was a no-brainer. After getting it I found it was just tremendously more fun than a road bike. It has back support, a neck rest, no pressure on shoulders, wrists and arms, and the head and neck are in a comfortable position looking forward. You can look up at the sky, clouds and birds! My back is all better now, but I'm not going back to a road bike, ever! Its fast, but not quite as fast as a road bike with a strong rider. However on my 2 wheeler, if I'm riding side by side with a road bike, he is putting out 20% more energy than me. Its aerodynamics, man! Two wheel recumbents like mine did very well at the recent bike races at Sebring FL, in the century, 12 hour, and 24 hour rides. My bike blog is here: bicyclepatents.com/

The transition to a trike was easy. Super, thanks! I have to figure what kind of rider I'm going to be in a few years. If my wife would ride a trike then I'd get one as well.

New tires are on bike, seat bag ready with roadside "things" and I'm ready to ride. I'm doing CF M-T-W and will ride Th if weather allows. First outdoor ride of the year and it will be great. I'll keep it to an hour of spinning at cadence and won't push hardly at all. Just get out and spin on normally an off day and leave plenty of recovery in the tank for F and S workouts.

Thanks! I'm a few years away from really getting serious about looking at them. Much of it will depend on my wife. If she is willing to ride it would most likely be a recumbent or "reclined". If she does I'll want to be down there with her.

I've been back on my bike the last few weeks, after much too long a break following our Century in October. So nice to be out! I'm happily sitting at about the 30-mile level for my Sunday rides, though I will probably want to push that up to 40 just for the sake of a tougher workout. I don't plan on riding a Century this spring, so I'm just riding for fitness, not training.

Well,I'll have to get back to riding my bike as I can't let rebecca top me mileage-wise Especially not if I'm just cruising at that level! I do have advantages over most of the country, in that I can ride year-round (though this winter has had more rain-outs than the last few).

My poor little 22-year-old back is already tired of road bikes. Can a youngin' get a recumbent too?

Well,I just got back from a 7-7.5 mile midnight ride and it is currently 73 degrees.I live right on the most popular cycling route in South Florida so I can't use location as an excuse as to why I haven't been cycling more lately.

Guess not! You don't have hills, either. Sheesh. What's your problem?? I've had to take a pass on biking this week--it's wet. I hate riding in the rain, so I go running instead. I don't mind running in the rain.

That pesky quote I keep using about "going by feel and not letting your mind override what your body is telling you".I have been staying off the bike to make sure my knee is 100%.I did notice on my ride my power straps were too tight keeping my foot too far back.

Ah. That is a valid excuse I would be in a better place now if I'd been better at doing that over the years.
