I rode my bike, for those of you that don't recall a Surly Cross-check light touring build,95 miles Saturday. But whether you rode your bike around the world or to the grocery store this is the thread to report your ride.Or if you want to brag about your bike or ask cycling related questions that is fine as well.Anyone else riding their bike?

I am trying to ride 5000 miles this calendar yr. 40 miles a day, 3x a week. We'll see. Too many weeks off for other trips.
Mine isn't for sale, but this one looks like mine.

We broke rainfall records here in Chicogoland this June. I've only been on my mountain bike at the local trail system once this summer!
Last year I bought a road bike. This summer I've logged some serious miles on it!

Thanks for the link.It looks like it will end at Alpe d'Huez one of my favorite areas of France.I have spent alot of time exploring vicariously around that area with google earth/search and could see myself vacationing in nearby Bourg d'Oisans the gateway for extreme cycling, skiing and hiking...

I rode my bike today for the first time in several weeks (due to being on the road and the trail). It felt a little weird, but good. I do like my bike :D

Rode my bike 50 miles today. When I got back at 4:30pm it was 91 and with humidity a real feel of 105.I seem to have a summer cold that flares up when I lie around in the AC.I have to go out for a hike or bike ride or workout in my garage to kick it.So I guess I am acclimated to the heat but not the AC.

Finally got by road bike out of the rafters. On Saturday, I rode 17.5 miles. I planned on doing just a semi-hilly loop, but I got inspired and tackled a benchmark climb... benchmark being "can I make it up" (average 8% grade with a max of 16%). It wasn't pretty (3.5 mph on the steep section), but I did it. Got a nice calf cramp at the summit as an added bonus.

I use an app called Map My Ride. It keeps track of a lot of stuff. I'd have to get a Fitbit type to do the heart rate. Here my road bike stats since I started using Map My Ride. This is since October 2013.
Bike Ride 1,776.74 mi 169.45 h 97,879 kCal

Love Map My Ride. I use it primarily for route planning.

Minimum speed this time was 4.1 for a brief second, but was typically a sustained 4.5 mph.

Love Map My Ride. I use it primarily for route planning. Me too. I only enter rides if I needed to map them. So the routine ones never show up, and it's not good for tracking my totals. I rode 32 miles yesterday, with a pretty gnarly climb. Since I did 21 the day before, I felt it. I've been focused on hiking for several weeks now, and not ridden much. We are tossing around the idea of a fall Century, so checking to see what works.

Here's a question for you all: I'm having issues with femoral-patellar misalignment. It seems to have come up as a result of bike training in the last couple of years (I'm still puzzling over the fact that I was fine for years, including training pretty hard, until I started training with my spouse. Might be coincidence, or might be because I push harder riding with him). Anyway: anybody have any insights about adjustments to the bike that could help? I think one issue is how my foot is aligned on the pedal. I use mountain bike pedals like these, I think: www.rei.com/product/705310/shimano-m540-spd-bike-pedalsI've wondered if a pedal that allowed more "float" would help.

This weekend I rode 34 miles, over one of the biggest hills around... and into a headwind. MapMyRide and Strava call it two "Category 3" climbs, with a 1/2 mile of slight downhill inbetween... total of 1,300' up. That was soon followed by a very steep descent. I'm a good descender, but this one was terrifying... 46 mph using brakes... with a couple of turns for added fun.

Rode 65-70 miles yesterday.Feel great now that I am recovered but the start of the ride back in the midday heat was rough.Luckily,I stopped to swim in the ocean until a strong afternoon storm rolled in to cool things off making the rest of the ride back pleasant.

I think one issue is how my foot is aligned on the pedal. I use mountain bike pedals like these, I think: www.rei.com/product/705310/shimano-m540-spd-bike-pedalsI've wondered if a pedal that allowed more "float" would help Dialing in the seat positioning is definitely the first step if you haven't done so already.Start by making slight adjustments to the seat height and fore/aft position to see if this helps. My rule of thumb on seat height is there should only be a slight bend to the knee when the foot is at the 6 oclock position. On fore/aft the knee should be centered over the foot at the 3oclock position but since you ride hills/mtns you probably need to adjust that some as per this article. www.jimlangley.net/crank/bikefit.htmlThen if you need more pedal float the speedplay frogs give you the most float but less pedal surface. These are popular with a lot of riders with knee issues. www.speedplay.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.frogAnother option popular with long distance riders with knee issues is the Shimano dual sided pedal(spd on one side, platform on the other). So you could even have one foot locked in while the other is free floating. www.ebay.com/itm/NIB-NEW-Shimano-PD-M324-SPD-Dual-Platform-Mountain-Bike-Clipless-Pedal-Set-9-16-/171650285547?hash=item27f7277febThe last point is to focus on spinning rather than mashing which is easier said than done since I am a masher.I am currently using my 80s platform pedals off of my Miyata touring bike without any lock in so I can wear my flipflops(I know I won't win any races this way).I have a tendency to arch my foot up and pedaling with the toes to bring more calf into it which is good for endurance mode but may be causing knee issues longer term so I have been making a point to make sure the foot I tend to excessively do this with is more forward when this happens.I'm thinking I may actually benefit from being more locked in in a more forward position where I can focus on spinning not mashing so am considering power grips www.powergrips.com/ or one of the pedals mentioned above.
