#TeamLanceMiller update 4/2/2016
Lance called from home today and sang "Happy Birthday to Austin" (my 23 year old son) and told me he had ice cream to eat, at home, not in the hospital, and that he had stayed up but Brett and Emily (my other brother and his wife) were already in bed. He told me there were four baby cows that were twins in the stable on the same floor with his bedroom, and that they were being bottle fed. Then he asked to talk to my husband Greg, he told Greg, "There are a lot of elk out my window here." Then added a huge laugh and, "Happy April Fool's Yesterday."

Well, here is another update Update on Brett Miller and #TeamLanceMiller This is a day filled with good news about my brothers. A quick reminder that at the end of August 2015, Lance (my youngest brother, with Down's Syndrome) had an abdominal infection that kept him in and out of ICU for over a year, with surgeries and micro robotic exploration and killer cocktails of 12 antibiotics at a time. Since then he has had a feeding tube and been unable to eat except things like ice cream. Then a month ago my older (still younger than me) brother was mauled by a bull on the ranch. So ok, enough backstory The update is this regarding Lance: he has been allowed to eat only by mouth for five days, including a fajita dinner he was extremely delighted by, and if there are no complications in the next ten days he gets to have the tube removed!! Brett says regarding himself, "I am healed, back to life no limitations. Just can't jump or run yet but other than that I healed super fast. I had 6 broken ribs in my back, broken clavical, broken knee, ripped tricep, collapsed lung and a pretty good blow to the head." Lance and mom

Wow! If Brett is comfortable on a horse 30 days after all that, he does heal fast! My spouse took the full 6-8 weeks to heal his broken ribs enough to be happy doing much of anything, including rolling over in bed.

So nice to hear your good news! Your brothers are really inspiring with their determination and positive attitudes, especially Lance with his lengthy ordeal.

Lol rebeccad no where did he say he was comfortable and knowing my brother, he could be in great pain and still be there, stubborn, determined, never taking no for an answer.

echo , your family has certainly faced some difficult and emotional challenges, but I'm glad to read that both your brothers are doing better. They must be very strong, determined men. I'm hoping that their progress continues and that life will be uneventful for the foreseeable future. They're certainly insiprational! BTW, assuming Lance has a PEG tube and had been dysphagic, I've had and continue to deal with that for my father. If there's any way I can offer any insight or emotional support, I'd consider it a privilege. The inability to consume food by mouth is far more serious emotionally than people realize. Just the process of eating and chewing is emotionally gratifying. So, Lance, I hope you're eating by mouth in another 10 days and indulging in your favorite foods!

autumnmist I think the hugest concern for me now is that Lance is excited to be eating, instead of watching others eat while he has ice cream, but terrified of the idea of them taking out his feeding tube, it hurts sometimes anyway, and he says, "no, don't let them take it out. I'll die!" I don't know the specifics, just that a year ago when they tried food, he would eat and vomit an hour after, a scope showed the exit from the stomach had narrowed but he was not healing well from other surgeries so they didn't want to try repairing it. Not sure what changed now but he is eating everything, pizza and steaks and Mexican food. I haven't seen him in person since summer 2013 but have tickets to fly there June 28. Meanwhile my .Mom lives out there too, by D.C. In assisted living for those with dementia. Brett's mother in law died four days after the bull attack, while he was in the hospital, so his wife had had her hands full and her emotions going every direction.

Wonderful! I hope I would heal as fast as Brett if a bull ever caught up with me.
