No views yesterday, from a misty Little Schloss summit in Virginia's George Washington National Forest: The above spot is accessed via a 70ft scramble. When I got up top, I heard some movement in the brush and looked up to see what appeared to be a large dog or coyote appear and then turn tail and run off into the woods. One, how did it get up top? It must have accessed the vista from the rear somehow. Two, I think it was probably a coyote, even if it was heavier/bigger than the ones I've seen before, because a dog would have approached me and not run off; it all happened quickly, so I didn't get a good enough look at the animal.

GaliWalker. Have you seen “Stumpy?” I guess it’s the last season of blooming for her. Understandable decision to pull out some of the cherry trees to protect them all by building a retaining wall to keep the salt water from the trees, but it makes a charming sight seeing the persistence of blooming even while dying

Oh, I didn’t know that tree was called “Stumpy”, and neither did I know that it (and others) were going to be removed. I have almost always avoided that particular area, skirting it along one of the more distant paths. (Obviously, I’ve seen/noticed Stumpy and know where it is.) I’ve never found it to be the most interesting part of the Tidal Basin.
