Fresh beaver activity in the local park. I actually saw the beaver last week, before I’d been to where the critter(s) been damming the creek.

Fresh beaver activity in the local park. This reminds me 3 years ago when I was doing my fall hike. I was hiking down the trail and started to go down into a small valley and I thought I started to see water. Nah... that can't be but when I got down sure enough the trail went straight through a newly formed pond. Luckily it was large enough to balance my way across.

It’s pretty wild. This is an urban park whose only connection to other open space is via the water (Puget Sound). I’m amazed we have wildlife of this sort in such a setting.

One former forum member, but I can’t remember the name she used here, was walking outside last year and noticed her entire apple orchard had vanished overnight. At first she blamed thieves but there was no sign of car tracks or digging, just no trees. Eventually she did find out it was beavers.

I took the real camera down to the park and got a better shot of my broad-tailed friend.

The clouds have been relentless since November, but the past two weeks have seen the weather slowly get back to "normal". I've been able to shoot on enough of these very short Summer nights to get in the total exposure time I need to process these two images. M17 "The Swan" nebula This is a rarely imaged object, partly because of it's faintness, but it is also located just a couple of degrees away from two of the brightest, most popular targets in the Summer night sky, so it gets overlooked. Sharpless 2-54 Here's a tighter crop to show the details in the central portion

Kind of boggles my mind to see the reservoir full.
