Am I the only one who has great disdain for all music formatted with MP3? I generally do too. They sound decent with headphones on, but I don't like them coming through speakers. When purchasing, I'll always go with the CD over the download. That way, I can put it on my ipod if I like, but can also hear it with better quality straight from the CD. And I like getting the album artwork (really prefer vinyl in that regard). In the case of free stuff like the new Wilco album, I'm happy with whatever I get. I'd love to have a PONO system, but don't want to repurchase music I've accumulated over the last 30 years. I already have some albums on both vinyl and CD and don't want to pay again to buy the same album a third time.

PONO was developed and backed by Neil Young as an alternative to such digital sources like MP3. I've never downloaded music and don't listen music coded by it. People say anything they want about the sound quality being similar. But, I don't agree.

I've gotten into stoner/desert/fuzz/sludge... Truckfighters, Bongzilla, Mastodon, Naxatras, Colour Haze, Dead Meadow, Witch, Electric Wizard.
A lot of the stuff I like has low production quality, so format (MP3, etc.) really doesn't seem to matter.

What genre would you call that, Cowpunk? Two cows and a beaver like it! Dunno if it has a name, but cowpunk sounds good. From their website you can download CDs for a reasonable price. I downloaded the previous couple from their Bandcamp link. If you like that, try Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, who I've seen many times in Mississippi and once near home. The man can really play, and it fits into the cowpunk genre. A few years ago I told my youngest daughter, who lives in NYC, that she should go see the BDB at a venue near her. To my surprise, she did. Later she said that she and her boyfriend thought that they were great, but wondered, "Where did all of these hillbillies [in NYC] come from?" Larger Vimeo version: vimeo.com/11495552Every now and then it's interesting to see what other people are listening to, and RangerSven keeps us up-to-date on good reading material.

In Ohio four were dead. Caution. Long song. Great cover. It's one of my favorite songs. Everytime I hear Neil's version I wish it were longer. Thanks.

Maiden is one of the metal bands I regret not having seen live back in the mid-1980s. This week, I've been listening to The Weeks, The Bottle Rockets and Alabama Shakes. I have a good seat to see the Shakes in a few weeks and figure I should get more familiar with the music before the show (I bought the ticket to see the opening band---Drive-By Truckers).
