My daughter needed to write an essay for her music class. She chose "Village Green Preservation Society" by the Kinks. Proud papa here! She even ended the essay with "GOD SAVE DONALD DUCK!!!"

Say what you will. But I was totally enthralled for 36 minutes with this performance. I recommend a pretty good stereo system turned up to medium-loud and, maybe some wine or other libation. This symphony caused unexpected reactions from the audience when first performed.

Silent Night has always been a rather haunting song for me, and this version from Winter Dreams by R. Carlos Nakai and William Eaton emphasizes that feeling for me, especially with the Navajo Chorus at the end. Rather late for Christmas if you celebrate it all on December 25, but not if you keep the celebration going until January 6.

Johnny Marr, best known as the guitarist/songwriter for 80s sensations the Smiths, now performs those songs solo, along with taking up lead singing duties (Morrissey was the Smith’s lead)
Here’s a Smiths # on public radio performance with some fancy guitar work..
Read where the guy is rated #4 on BBC’s list of British guitarists.

Oh heck, here’s Johnny .. Marr again on the Tonight Show playing the Smith’s classic How Soon Is Now
(P.S. think the Smith’s including Marr and Morissey won’t be reuniting due to legal issues, various feuds, etc..)

Mazzy Star popped up again on my feed .. Here’s one from Mazzy Star The YouTube algorithm offered up their songs a couple of months ago. I found her voice captivating. I really couldn't fit it into the format of my show. A mix of acoustic psychedelic with some blues, like their precursor group Opal (‘80s-‘90s “Paisley Revolution”). The shy lead singer for Mazzy was/is Hope Sandoval and became their lyricist. Fade into You , already on the music thread earlier, is a cult classic explained by the group wanting room for listener interpretation: ourculturemag.com/2020/07/12/a-deep-dive-into-mazzy-stars-fade-into-you/Their best charting song on Billboard was December’s Flowers .. here’s a live version They then clashed with Capitol records, preferring to put out quality songs vs “hits” .. even if it takes many years (so long 2 bandmates die of cancer maybe a tad too long?). Still they did a good job on a 1995 Batman soundtrack song .. Tell Me Now . It’s still performed live but can’t find a good version so here’s a studio version A version of the band sometimes pops up or the singer does her own solo more electronica version of the stuff I have yet to explore. She’s also on some of the alt-group The Jesus and Mary Chain’s (UK) recordings and concerts [mid ‘90s] when she dated one of their songwriters if that group pops up on yr feed.

On a deep dive into Waylon Jennings today so I thought I would share a song that hits close to home for me.
Rumi~the crazy~Dude
PS: The video quality is terrible, but the audio is pretty good. Great live performance of this song.

Put your headphones on ... Kick back into the recliner ... Close your eyes ... Let the music wash over you. Last month my brother & 18 year old niece visited, and I forced my niece to listen to DSOTM in the car on the way to the beach. She liked it! Despite the road noise, interruptions, etc. There may be hope for humanity yet. I told her that one cannot truly appreciate PF without good headphones, however...she gave me a puzzled look...she cannot understand... but someone is getting good headphones for her 19th birthday this month. I have to figure out how to get her the music, too...she doesn't buy music - only streams it, with ads. And that just won't do! It should be punishable by slow, agonizing, humiliating public death to interrupt PF with a plea to talk to your doctor about Vaxadrin* today! I'm thinking a month or two of premium Spotify? I told her that one cannot truly appreciate PF without good headphones That's so, so true. I wore out this album in college with my giant Koss Pro-4AA headphones. It was already vintage by then, but it was among the first I bought when I got my first audio rig. Eventually I upgraded quite a bit, but this album was a great test due to its excellent recording and production quality.

My parents had a set of Koss something. If headphones could be worn out, I surely would have accomplished that feat, playing various sorts of music. Looking at images now, they were the same 4AA or something similar, 70s vintage.
