Everyone’s favorite non-band is having their movie sequel as Spinal Tap starts filming again at the beginning of next year. On tap (pun intended) are guest appearances by Paul McCartney and Elton John: www.cnn.com/2023/11/29/entertainment/this-is-spinal-tap-sequel/index.htmlIf unfamiliar, this trailer from the 1984 mockumentary (from Rob Reiner of All In the Family fame) shows their “greatest” from that film.. Interestingly according to comedienne Fran Drescher, who was in the movie, much of the rock mockumentary was “improv” ..Her famous clip is at 0:19 in the following interview..

It was quite a shock to see that. I never thought of him being old.

Howlin' Wolf, with the likes of Clapton and Winwood begging for a lesson. First, the lesson and false start. Then the real deal. Oh, man, come on! You ain't go nuthin' do but count off an' an' an' uh... An' uh, change on the, an' uh you know when ya say... One... Two... Three... Four, ya change. An' ya see, he drops in when ya say... You say Da Boom! Always stop at the top, see. Alright, let's get on it.

Hubert Sumlin (who was on that session) is the guy they should have been asking for lessons. He did all the heavy lifting on Wolf's classic recordings. It's interesting that so much of his documented work was in an already archaic style, although it was great artistic fit. His capability was much broader, but as a sideman he specialized in doing what the situation called for. I'm glad he got a little more out front toward the end of his life.

I'm pretty darn sure that I don't know nearly as much as you do, but Willie Dixon seems to be one of the similar great and semi-obscure musicians. He wrote, he played, he did it all.
In fact, he wrote Little Red Rooster in the video above. A well as I Just Wanna Make Love to You, Hoochie Coochie Man, My Babe, and many other hits. On the other hand, they all learned (stole) from each other right and left - see Memphis Minnie.

He was one of the eternal greats, and the backbone of Muddy Waters' bands in his golden Chicago era. He mentored many of those who came up in that scene in the 50s and didn't get enough credit for making the Chess brothers so commercially successful.

Phil Wiggins has blown his last note. He famously partnered with John Cephas for many years. They played a style known as Piedmont blues, known for its finger picking acoustic guitar, played by John Cephas. I saw them once, years ago. They were great. John was older, and died years ago.
Dog Days of August
Stack and the Devil
Black Rat Swing. In their younger days.
www.washingtonpost.com/obituaries/2024/05/14/phil-wiggins-blues-piedmont-dies/I have the Somebody Told the Truth CD (maybe others), and like it. The second video, Stack and the Devil track, is on it. Stagolee and the Devil. Excerpts: Stack-o-lee said to the Devil Put your pitchfork on the shelf Get your red ass outta bed I'm gonna run Hell by myself
That ol' Devil was kinda hairy, too Yeah, and he smelled bad Had long yellow teeth Dipped Copenhagen He was a registered Republican Stack was a Democrat
