I'll see that bet and raise you a two sax Super Sex with Mark Sandman on two sting slide bass. Thursday is one I've always recognized.

In college at Ike's Tavern, my after class hangout, this song played constantly on the juke box unless someone put in a nickle and selected something else. And after that selection ended, this song would start back in constant play again. RIP, Tina, RIP.

Robert Plant with Patty Griffin, back when they were dating and she toured with his Band of Joy. Also Buddy Miller, who I'm not familiar with.

Here’s a little foot-stomping garage-rock from Sonic Youth set to a punk rock 2 minute-ish time limit. Sacred Trickster is off their 2009 release which was their best charting stuff .. before their harsh breakup.
Interestingly Kim didn’t play the bass on this as usual but did the frontwoman thing instead..

Metallica came out with a new album. A lot more of their old sound than their recent stuff, especially the title track and If Darkness Had a Son.

The Cure captures the mood a bit better. BTW, an iconic and fantastic album from beginning to end.

Sir Elton John just completed his hit-laden Glastonbury performance in an extended version of Rocket Man, and may be one of his last live performances ever. Last one in Britain reportedly. He’s pretty subdued with no costume but some festival goers did their own Elton costumes .. Some of his other songs during the performance had extended piano bits so hope they make it on YT. Link below has a little background on his career and this show …. but love the quote about his costumes through the years www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-66015546

When strings rock. I've long been a fan of extended versions, jams, varying interpretations, "unusual" instruments, minor chords, etc. Strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, etc. Two instances of when strings rock. An obvious candidate. I've long found it disconcerting that the attendees apparently didn't recognize the song until it was more than obvious. They didn't know the intro. To my ear, the strings always have, and always will, drive this song. They are the power.
Somewhat less obvious, as Peter Gabriel covers David Bowie. One thing's for sure - Peter Gabriel can interpret both his own songs as well as those by others. He's not the spring chicken he was when I first saw him, so he doesn't run around the stage like he used to, but he's still well worth seeing. I have a ticket for his upcoming tour. And, two days before, a ticket to see Patty Griffin. Say what you will. Dipoles. It's a big world, and there is a lot to be heard and appreciate beyond them.
It's been far too many years since I've been to the local symphony, covid notwithstanding, but I know that in past years I've sometimes distracted myself from the main course by focusing on a certain section or player in the orchestra - strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, that cello, that french horn, etc.

You never know what the future might hold. The Ventures' first drummer ended up becoming a 4 star general.
