Alas, the Commander has left his post.
Last I knew Bill Kirchen (guitar) was still touring, playing his dieselbilly on his Telesauraus, which dates all the way back to his Commander Cody days. I saw him once several years ago. Overall it wasn't my really my thing, but definitely worth seeing. He did an online concert in 2020 for his birthday or some such occasion. It was online due to the pandemic.
Best Hot Rod Lincoln live version - ever. Elvis, Sex Pistols, Deep Purple, Link Wray, Earl Scruggs, VW bus full o' hippies...

Not sure if this has been posted here before, but Disturbed did an awesome cover of The Sound of Silence.

BTW, best comment below the Facebook video... "Why everyone is saying it's hard to play, i just clicked on video and it started". LOL!
But apparently it was originally written for piano...
And then there's Doors interpretation (Spanish Caravan)...

walkswithblackflies - thanks for posting that. I've heard it a few times, but knew/know nothing about it. Listening to the videos (eyes closed, I suppose), one of the first things I thought of was banjo. Specifically 3 finger/Scruggs style, with its naturally staccato notes.
I have no idea who Jamie Dupuis is, but after listening to his version I think that maybe I'm wrong. Three finger banjo, with its ultra crisp notes seems to be a natural fit for certain parts, but maybe not overall. And he's not playing true 3 finger style - he's playing it more like a guitar. It also looks like he's playing a 6 string banjo, rather than a more typical 5 string. I'm not convinced that the default G tuning of a banjo works in this case.
Of the three, I like the guitar version best, banjo third. The banjo might sound better without the resonator, which adds a lot of volume. Might be better with an open back. Thanks again. (look at the long skinny fingers on that guy - he could play piano, banjo, guitar, anything) I'd be interested to hear BigLoad 's opinion.

Les Claypool on his bass banjo: A short little intro: A full song: The Bassjo, also referred to as the banjo bass in a 2006 article featuring Les Claypool on the cover of Bassplayer Magazine[10] was made by luthier Dan Maloney. Maloney was a friend of Claypool's approximately ten years ago when Claypool asked him to construct a guitar with "a banjo body and a bass neck ("Les Does More" 43)." The Bassjo can be heard on Claypool's 2006 album "Of Whales and Woe" on the track "Iowan Gal", as well as Primus' "Captain Shiner" from the album Tales from the Punchbowlen.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_banjo#Bassjo

Of the three, I like the guitar version best, banjo third. Guessing this will be #4 Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bass_banjo#Bassjo Well, there is such a thing as a bass banjo. I've seen a video with Bela Fleck where he displays one that he owns. It's, uh, huge. Not at all like Claypool's bassjo. Much more like an upgright bass.
Since, to the best of my limited knowledge, Claypool 100% plays it like a bass guitar, I'd be curious to know what his intent was in using a banjo head. Personally, I don't notice any difference in the sound.

Just because you can do something, it doesn't mean you should. It's really hard to rapidly and repeatedly, push enough air through an instrument that large.

Yup, that's it, although from what little I've read there are variations. In the video I remember he pulled it out of a case. A very large case. You'd need a hand truck to move it, not a simple handle or strap. Since I seem to have taken us down a banjo side road, here are Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn. He's a 3 finger virtuoso who can play all of the old Scruggs type tunes, and well as his own improvisational style. Abigail is quite notable in the clawhammer realm. They're also married to each other. They briefly demonstrate their styles, and near the end Bela comments on the usual conundrum where a 3 finger banjoist has a hard time playing clawhammer, and vice versa. I'm not surprised at all, give that it's not just fingers, but brains, which are wired over many years to play a certain style. There are other styles, but not as well known or popular, such as plectrum (guitar).
If you listen to Bela when he plays, you'll hear how the notes are very stacdato - minimal sustain, unlike a guitar, which is what originally struck me about wwbf's post.

Some modern guitar maestros:
Ichika Nito
Tim Henson's Polyphia Amazingly intricate melody here...
Tosin Abasi's Animals as Leaders Twin guitarists, playing eight string guitars, no bassist.
One more of Tosin Abasi doing one of his band’s songs:
