Jesse Colin Young Four in the Morning
Heavy, heavy lyrics, which change a bit between the two versions.
I like the first version due to his higher pitched voice and the guitar work.
But the second version, with his deeper voice, somewhat slower pace, and greater emphasis on the timing of the lyrics, lead me more to the storytelling, which, yeah, is pretty heavy.

He rearranges the lyrics between the two versions, but this is the first set. Again, it's heavy, heavy stuff. I've been in pretty much all of those situations in my life.
Four in the morning and the water is pouring down Stove don't work and my baby has just left town
I'm lying on my back 'cause there just ain't nothing to drink Empty bottles on the floor and dirty dishes in the sink
Nothin' to drink an' the sun ain't gonna shine I left my baby 'cause she just wouldn't stop lyin'
Well I saw my baby and she took back all she said It don't make no difference now cause I shot 'em both in bed
Jimmie Joe with her legs and knees all bandaged up Came asking for some money and all I had was a buck
Four in the morning and the water is pouring down Stove don't work and my baby has just left town
I'm watching a cockroach crawling in an old bean can He said "When your baby's left you I bet it's tough to be a man."
Four in the morning and the water is pouring down

I'm taking a break from one of his others and working on a transcription of this performance. That second-to-last chorus will take months to really get.

This is the one I've been working on for a while. It still has a long way to go, but the hard part is over. The guy who transcribed them thinks this is harder than the one above, which dissuaded me from trying for a long time. It's interesting to see what's possible from sheer determination.

It's about time for Graham Parker and Nona Hendryx.
Also Sam and Dave, James Brown, Mary Wells, Eddie Floyd, Duck Dunn, Steve Cropper, Booker T, Sam Cooke, Carla Thomas, Otis Redding, Little Milton, Al Green, Junior Walker, Aretha Franklin... It's a Soul Christmas.

Listening to the top “alt” hits 2000-2020, this mostly vocal duo featuring Goyte have some pipes on Mornings Become Eclectic (public TV ... which didn’t show much of the backing musicians).

The McCartney III album is out with Paul playing all the instruments like I (1971) and II (1980). In this video, sounds like he’s updating some techniques and effects like Beck (not Jeff Beck).
May want to check out the other videos. Some are based on experimental guitar strumming... pretty good strumming but may not be everyone’s cup of tea.
