For all of you romantics out there. Happy Valentine's Day.
The Hollies did a great cover of this song, but this is the orignal.

Ain't Got You, by the late great Solomon Burke.
It just slowly winds up until, at the end, as Solomon declares, "Y'all done went hog crazy heah!"

The back of my head is in there somewhere on the long shots.
The Dexateens never set out to be polished. In person, it's glorious. They opened for Drive-By Truckers at the 40 Watt last Thursday.

desert dweller, I have to say: I really like your selections. You obviously have a deep knowledge of music. Your Bryan Bowers selection reminded me of Steve Martin (and the Steep Canyon Rangers) singing this one. (I understand that there are a lot of people out there who loathe Steve Martin, but I really like him. He inherited some of my love for the music of John Hartford.)

I have to say: I really like your selections. You obviously have a deep knowledge of music. Almost all of the music I post in the music thread, I also play on my radio show. Steve Martin (and the Steep Canyon Rangers) singing this one. (I understand that there are a lot of people out there who loathe Steve Martin, but I really like him. He inherited some of my love for the music of John Hartford.) Steve Martin is a modern Renaissance Man. He's an actor, musician, writer, performer and inspirational speaker. I have LPs that credit him as far back as the early '70's. I didn't give him much credence during his SNL days. But, when he started record and win Grammies with his banjo playing, I started seeing him in a different light.

Music should be fun, even if all music doesn't try hard to be overtly humorous. Even Bach had his moments (see the Coffee Cantata, a darkly humorous little ditty about the dangers of caffeine for young ladies.) I once had a friend who was a music major (she was a soprano) at the University of Texas. She had a huge knowledge of classical music. But, when someone would pompously refer to some obscure composer and ask if she knew a particular piece of music by him, she'd invariably burst their bubble by replying, "Yes, but have you heard the Great Bowel Movement of Dvorak's 13th?" (or something like that). There's something about a great banjo song. I'm also a fan of Noam Pikelny (and, of course, the Punch Brothers and the great, audacious Chris Thile!), as well as Alison Brown and Abigail Washburn. The Punch Brothers @ Telluride.
Noam Pikelny (on 4 string guitar) and another of my favorites, Aoife O'Donovan, "Don't That Road Look Rough and Rocky". I know there's nothing new or unusual about any of these artists - I'm sure you all know them.

Yeah, I've been following him for a while. But, his antics/style on his show Live From Here (used to be Prairie Home Companion) really irk me. I don't think he's intentionally hamming it up, yet all his movements seem to demand attention. My current favorite players are Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings. Billy came to town a few months ago and played at a relatively small venue. He is insane on the guitar.

Here’s one from Mazzy Star, one of the pioneering groups in the modern Americana/Indie sound. One of their cofounders, Dave Roback just passed away at age 61, so you may have heard this one at a bar or coffee shop:
The lead singer and other regular member of the group, Hope Sandoval, really only liked to song in the dark so kind of hard to find good live videos. The official should suffice..

Here’s one from Mazzy Star The YouTube algorithm offered up their songs a couple of months ago. I found her voice captivating. I really couldn't fit it into the format of my show.
