I am SO sorry to hear this! I have just been through this myself, and it is a tough road for the patient, and even tougher for the spouse. I pray she will have a lasting remission from this new treatment.

Plus, we found out my wife's cancer is back, and she starts chemo tomorrow. I too offer support for you and your wife, and all of your family who might be involved in helping you at this difficult time. There's a lot of cancer in my family; I know how overwhelming chemo and/or radiation can be. hikinggods , how are YOU doing with your own treatment?

My youngest can't have flu shots for now. He's also 2 years behind on the rest of his shots. Basically I pray that herd immunity doesn't fail for him. He goes to public school at 4.5 and since he isn't in Kinder yet (he goes to the developmental preschool), he doesn't "technically" have to be fully vaccinated to attend. We will try to get him up to date before next year, but his immune system doesn't take well to foreign intrusions. His severe allergies play also with what he can have put into him.
I had some form of the flu when I was a teen. It was very nasty. I've only run a fever that high a few times. I was hallucinating - and tried to walk around sick - and ended up shutting a door on my arm. That was when I was forced to stay in bed. My husband and oldest son both got the flu winter of 2009/2010. That year I had taken a flu shot (when it was hard to get). I found a pharmacy many miles over that got shots in, and if you were pregnant or old they would give it. So yeah, that was "fun". I was pregnant and taking care of 2 very sick people. But I didn't get sick.

Sarbar mention one very important reason to get your influenza vaccine. That is to protect those around you that may not have as good as immune system or have respiratory problems. You can have influenza and not know, it especially for the first day of so when you can transmit the virus. Even if you do not think that YOU need it get it to protect those around you.
