Another one who at least tries to get the shot every year. I have had real influenza, and it's not fun. For me, it's also now an easy path to pneumonia, which is even less fun. I have been sick enough to understand why people die of it. I'll hedge my bets.

My last tetanus shot was a few years ago after I got cut at work. My doctor figured that it was probably 15-20 years since my last booster. I think I'm up to speed on everything now.

Regarding tetanus: Kaiser keeps me pretty on track with those things. It's nice to have someone else keeping track since no way on earth would I remember when I'm due.

I'm getting my shot at work on Tuesday. If for any reason I miss it, I'll get it elsewhere within the next week or so.

My first flu shot was last year. Never, ever again. I had 6 or 7 flus during the course of the winter, and 1 very heavy long head cold. Finally my doctor gave me an anti biotic shot & BOOM it was gone in 2 days. I didn't think all of it was caused by the flu shot, until I eliminated all possible causes. Took a few months, but I learned my lesson. Flu is virus based and so are the components in the vaccine so no "antibiotic" will do anything related to a vaccine issue as those work against bacteria which is unrelated to an influenza vaccine.

It's free so I get one every year. Plus, if I keep up on all on my vaccinations, and my BP and blood lipids good my insurance sends me a $100 gift card.

In the best years it's maybe 60% effective. In a bad year it can be less than 20% effective. I do my other vaccines, but the flu shot doesn't impress me. Maybe it would if I held stock in one of the drug companies... My sentiments exactly, adding to it that (a) after reading some years ago about quality control problems at a manufacturer (b) some components of a variety of meds come from emerging market countries, and (c) big pharma "entices" doctors with incentives, I've over the years decided not to take any more meds than necessary. I hadn't had flu for decades and only now get those kinds of symptoms in the month of birth of my now deceased sister. Ortho injuries occur in the birth month of my deceased mother. Those issues are fairly predictable.

I meant to get one Friday when I was at the Dr. office. I completely forgot to ask about it.

Took a few months, but I learned my lesson. I am not a doctor, but I do know that antibiotics are totally useless against the flu. The flu is caused by a virus and antibiotics are only effective against bacterial infections. So either the cessation of symptoms was simply coincidental with the antibiotic shot, or you had a bacterial infection. The likely candidate was either bacterial pneumonia or a bacterial sinus infection. Also it is unlikely you would get the flu six or seven times during a winter because it is not likely to get exposed to that many different strains of the flu in one season. Either that or your immune system is almost non-functioning. Rumi

I work for a hospital and it's required (or I need to mask in patient care area). I'd get it anyway, and am totally indifferent. If there's a government conspiracy, I'm sure it has something to do with exposing us to the Khardasians than something in a vaccine.

Nope. Never had a flu shot. I seldom visit my Dr, and haven't had a Dr for over 3 years. Certainly not for normal routine exams. I guess that might change now that I am going on Medicare.

If I have the change or reducing the odds of getting what could be a serious illness I am going to take it. A 20-60% reduction if better than ZERO. I know I am bias since I have seen a number of fatalities in folks who pre influenza were as healthy as any of the folks I have met that post on this forum.

it is unlikely you would get the flu six or seven times during a winter I think a lot of people have a misunderstanding of what the flu shot really is and really does, and that it's for influenza, not a stomach bug. A friend recently had several episodes of a stomach bug and food poisoning -- turns out it was really his gallbladder. Anyway -- didn't we have this discussion last year, too?

Yes, my grandfather lost three otherwise healthy, young adult siblings in the 1918 flu epidemic. That's one reason I get the shot every year.
