I'm heading out in the morning to the Blue River south of Alpine, Arizona. Google Earth, dated this year, shows a beaver dam across the river. I'll take some pictures.
Anyone else have any plans?

I was planning on taking all my kids on a weekend backpacking trip but we're expecting snow down to the pass level and I don't have the appropriate gear for them to handle such conditions.

We're currently at 6 on the Beaufort scale (~10 foot waves, ~25mph wind). I think I'll leave the kayak in the shed and go to the gym.

The storm Tigger up in Oregon mentioned has already pushed a lot of cool dry air and wind into northern and central California where I live. As a photographer, breezy windy weather is to be avoided so canceled notions of a Sierra short road trip to Tioga Pass day hiking till at least Sunday afternoon on this holiday weekend. Note on Monday had canceled a 6-day backpacking reservation for Dusy Basin due to long range forecasts for wind. But weather info does show Monday morning to be unusually calm at the crest as the trough moves east so may drive up Sunday pm for a single day. But a lot of driving for a single day so could wait a week and even take a PTO day. At this time of early September dwarf bilberry and arctic willow turf plants at timberline elevations turn reds, purples, yellows, the first fall leaf changes. Subjects very few other photographers take notice of. In any case all the mosquitoes are long dead, and we are into the supposed warm balmy days at the end of summer, with cool clear days of fall to be increasing.

Biking the Mt. Lassen road tomorrow. That should be nice, though it'll be a bit cool and breezy. Had intended to do it today, but didn't get moving soon enough.

On sensory overload - Reconciling figure skating club memberships, prepping our volunteer requirements for the 2016 US International Classic and US Junior/Novice Challenge Skate held the same week as Pickle Gulch, finalizing the crew for our Car Park business relating to the Utah/BYU game Saturday and USC game two weeks after that. Add to that commencing preparations for hosting the 2017 Pacific Coast Sectional Figure Skating Championships in November. Hoping to get Monday off for a hike or 500 mile motorcycle ride in Nevada.
So please, take a hike for me!
You did say Labor Day!

Labor Day = "here, hold my beer" Day. I'll be at work hanging out with a whole bunch of people who probably had other plans for the weekend. :-) Y'all be safe!

I had about 15 boy scouts at the house this morning until about 2. Had a little down time and now I'm getting ready to host some of my husband's co-workers for football and food. No exciting outdoor plans though.

I was planning on taking all my kids on a weekend backpacking trip but we're expecting snow down to the pass level and I don't have the appropriate gear for them to handle such conditions. This cracks me up. Here in central Texas we're still staying inside, because it's miserably hot and humid out. My boy and I did spend a few hours soaking in a nearby river this morning before it got up into the 90s, but that's going to be the extent of our outdoor activities for the next month or so. Backpacking season here begins in October.

I'm usually backpacking for 10 days or so starting Labor Day weekend but plans fell through and will be doing a fall color hike in October. Normally the crowds leave the trails after this weekend which makes for better solitude.

As I said this morning, I had to go in to work, and as is usual the view from my "cubicle" totally sucked. . . .

Was going to hike Arizona Trail Passages #23-24, but the forest road to Doll Baby Trailhead is completely flooded out, so my hiking buddy's car could not get through.
So now I'll be hiking Passages #9-10 (southbound) on my own. Roughly 37 miles so I hope I can finish on Monday with enough time and energy to get ready for work on Tuesday.
