Two cases of plums...I've had no time this year for canning so I'm freezing everything to make wine later I sampled some ice distilled brandy once...Morgan made plum wine, then froze it in 2L soda bottles. Invert the bottle over a small container and the alcohol and plum juice will thaw first leaving the ice in the bottle. Some of the tastiest I've ever had, and it would curl the hair on your toes as well. I pickled 6.5 quarts of beets last weekend.

I was planning to go to the annual Scandinavian Festival a few towns over, but the forecast turned to rain. Then it changed again. Maybe I'll go after all. It was a perfect day, and the festival was very well attended. I didn't eat any Swedish Pancakes there because that's what I made for breakfast. Monday might be a monster hill repeat workout day, with blue corn buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. To day was perfect, too. Besides the blue corn buttermilk pancakes and the monster hill repeat workout, Mpars. big_load and I paddled a couple times around the lake.

This weekend I went backpacking on the Ice Age Trail with a friend who had never been before. She borrowed my gear. First night, (1 a.m.) we were abruptly awakened by the howling of a thriving wolf pack. I'm a newbie with 3 hikes under my belt this summer - and I can now say that I have tasted fear. Haa! My friend is also still alive...her heart survived reuben - I was really re-thinking that whole hammock conversation. And I'm in! Lol

That's exactly what my husband said. I'm sure at some point I will think that was no big deal (no fear), but I'm not quite there yet.

How close were they? Did you look for tracks in the morning?

How close were they? Did you look for tracks in the morning? I honestly don't know how close they were, but when a mesh wall is all that's between you and that howling...it sounds pretty darn close. On the hike back, I looked for tracks on the trail but didn't see any. I assume they steer clear of the trail anyway. The howling went on periodically till 3:00 (ish) and we could tell they were moving farther away. Whew!

We took 4 days off and visited North Cascades National Park and the Okanogan National Forest. Hiked to Rainy Lake and did the extremely harrowing Hart's Pass Drive. So I've been to 35 National Parks now Going to hit at least one more new park by the end of this National Park Service Centennial Year.

i had really good labor day plans. 3 days and nights of camping in the high country. But a couple of weeks beforehand, we decided it was time to remodel our kitchen in the strip it down to the studs and start over fashion. Was a great weekend.

Spent the day at Bishop's Castle before driving home. Mr. Bishop built that huge structure by himself. He is also an interesting character and always has a bone to pick with someone.
The other 2 days of that weekend were spent at the State Fair in Pueblo, and at the zoo, and theater. Took my wife and boy to their first demolition derby!
