What were your best, or favorite, three photos of 2023? Here's your chance to share it, along with a few words about why you picked them. If there was a single standout photo, just share that one - less is more, after all - however, I'd suggest limiting it to not more than three. For motivation, here are the previous years' threads (I couldn't find 2022): 2021, 2020, 2019.

#1New River Gorge National ParkThis photo of Sandstone Falls from New River Gorge National Park is my favorite from 2023. I've taken this particular composition quite a few times before - just scroll down to my third most favorite pic from 2021 - but it was my first sunrise there. The lighting was the best I've ever experienced there; I think this is my favorite photo ever taken in the park. #2Glacier National ParkI selected this shot of Hidden Lake from my first ever trip to Glacier National Park, and Montana for that matter. Similar to the photo above, this was another magical sunrise. #3Joshua Tree National ParkI selected this photo of Hall of Horrors from my first ever trip to Joshua Tree National Park, because I think this most accurately represented what I thought were the best parts of the park. I'd come to see the Joshua trees, but ended up being equally impressed by the gorgeous rock structures.

Just a beautiful day, early in the year, at home. Backpacking in the Beartooths. Also in the Beartooths. I like the flowers in this one.

It wasn't a great year for hiking trips ... the driest and hottest spring, summer, and fall that I've ever experienced up here in the middle of BC. Our cutoff for heat & hiking is about 80 F, and then some of the best days for hiking were wiped out because of wildfire smoke (which was quite bad all summer). We ended up kayaking a lot, and these are just some of my favorites photos taken on the water. Clicking on the photos makes them larger & nicer for viewing! Long-billed Curlew after a missed attempt of snagging a leech. Immature Bald Eagle being annoyed by a wasp. American Coot blasting off. All taken with the Nikon Z9 camera + Z800mm lens.
