Your best, or favorite photo(s) of 2019...? How about posting it, along with a few words about why you think it was your best or favorite. I'd suggest limiting it to a single one - less is more, after all - but if you can't pick one, see if you can keep it to no more than 3.

This year, I believe I have a single photo which I like clearly better than the rest, and I took it relatively early in the year (March 2, 2019): Aftermath This photo, a 'selfie', was taken right after a treacherous ice storm. In it I’m standing atop Big Schloss, looking down the spine of Mill Mountain. To my left is West Virginia and to my right is Virginia. The drive to the trailhead had been an adventure, and the trail had been a sheet of ice. Every tree branch had been encased in a sheath of ice. As I neared the summit the mist that had blanketed everything began to lift. My timing ended up being perfect, as I got treated to this dramatic scene. My favorite part of this photo are the array of contrasts: the storm-line along Mill Mountain's spine, the little bit of (ice-coated) green to my left, and the red of my jacket.

Not really sure this is my best of the year (on technical merit), but I think it's my favorite because of the cuteness factor. Barred Owlet (near Lynden, WA). We didn't take too many backpacking themed photos on our treks this year for some reason, so I had to go into my wildlife files for a favorite. This was taken in June.

This was taken over Memorial Day weekend at the Petrified Forest National Park. Any person can camp in the trailess backcountry. I hiked in about a mile south from the west entrance of the Petrified Forest Road. The time is sunrise. The color of the tent matches the colors of the landscape and sunlight.

I don't take many pictures myself, but I favor this one from the Grand Canyon trip Last March.

I pulled 143 days of backpacking in 2019 so it's gonna be hard to limit it to 3 measly pics---and I'm assuming these are supposed to be backpacking pics or outdoor pics and not Impeachment pics or Trump giving a speech pics---subjects so popular now on this website. My first pic has to be a butt cold couple nights on State Line Ridge on the Benton MacKaye trail in TN/NC. On the same trip I tooled south on the BMT and reached Six Mile Gap for this pic. In March I pull a 24 day trip and I like this pic cuz it has everything---full hiking layers, a high elevation rock at 5,240 feet, and an ass heavy pack.

This is the year I finally captured an image of a coachwhip, the fastest snake in North America. Full length too. Normally we get a glimpse before they up and disappear. The snake is hiding in a lot of prickly pear and is looking at my shoes as I lean way over getting stuck in several places but got the photo

That's some true desert rat stealth camping, right there. Did you wake up to tourists taking photographs of the odd formation? Maybe we'll stop there in April, always think about it as we blow by doing 80 on 40.

This year, I believe I have a single photo which I like clearly better than the rest, and I took it relatively early in the year (March 2, 2019) Gali, as you know, yours is a truly "special" photo... a National Geographic cover for sure! The photo is not overly manipulated (I deeply dislike what I call the "Arizona Highways Filter" so often in evidence in outdoor photography these days, creating a too stylized photo). The composition is perfect, and of course the atmosphere and surroundings are stunning. I'm still trying to figure out how you got down to your spot without leaving tracks inside 15 seconds! Back in the day, I often used red packs because they contrasted and complimented outdoor shots so well, especially given the Kodachrome 64 I shot then. Thanks for this thread...

Pete, that photo is outstanding... it just doesn't seem to matter the species, all animal babies are precious looking. Your photo captures the vulnerability and wonder of a new life!
