Near where the opening shots of "Shane" were filmed near Kelly Warm Springs with a mountain I've hiked many times in the background, the Gros Ventre Range's Jackson Peak. This was on April 29th. We had a GREAT snowpack in mid March but as is the case more and more we just didn't get the spring snows we used to be able to count on. More Elk in May off of what I call Indiana Jones Hill on the Gros Ventre Road. Buck Mountain and the Tetons on the horizon. One of my favorite boondocking spots. Palmer Peak and the Gros Ventre Range in late June.

Man, some of you are truly talented. My favorite 3 photos from a year of thrills, horrors, and a huge life change... 1) My oldest niece hangin' with Sacagawea at the start of our hike from Fort Clatsop to the beach. Before moving to the east coast this summer, I only got to see my nieces once a year...so I was pretty thrilled to get a good hike in & bore her to tears with my endless Lewis & Clark/Sacagawea stories. 2) Obligatory Double Arch shot, Arches NP. Taken during my move across the country. 3) Mom at Sandy Point State Park, Maryland - taken today! Not much of a "hike" by our (forum) standards. But for Mom this short, wobbly stroll might as well be the Triple Crown. This Fall she was hospitalized for a month, due to a neglectful medication error that caused 30 pounds of fluid buildup in her legs, lungs & heart (and other complications). She lost all her mobility & a great deal of strength, which is returning oh so slowly. She's lucky to be on the correct side of the lawn. I noodged her walker out of frame so she could have a dignified photo taken without that damned infernal contraption. She did a good job hiding her irritation that I made her pose in front of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge...it's her own fault for marrying a highway engineer and making a son with a perpetual inner-5-year-old glee for any & all engineering marvels.

It's taken me a while to get to this, and I can't promise these are my best. But they are three I really like, which stuck with me enough to go looking for them.
The Canyon, climbing up the Hermit Trail
An unnamed tarn in the Alpine Lakes Wilderness, WA, during the smoke.
Twin Lakes, Sawtooth Wilderness, Idaho.

Thanks!
My mom has some old Norman Edson photos processed somehow with gold. That bottom one reminds me of the coloration of those prints.

Big South Fork River, Tennessee: Was suppose to do a fall weekend hike there last fall but didn't make it. Looks like it would be worth the drive.
