Never poke a bunch of old geezers. Once you stir 'em up, there's no telling where things'll go. Here's a fun fact that makes me feel even older than all you wrinkly old geezers... I don't think so. When I was 5 or 6 and Dad would pull up to the local station, the pumps had glass disks on top, and sometimes this sexy woman would appear on it.

Ah! A little tetraethyl lead never hurt anyone. :) It's amazing the stuff we DIDN'T KNOW back then. I was way far gone in love with Ethyl at the time. Magazines with nekkid womenfolk were in my distant future. I didn't even understand in the least the vague stirrings in my own groin whilst viewing Ethyl (and her kin in the advertising media).

It's amazing the stuff we DIDN'T KNOW back then. Actually we did know, right from the beginning in the 1920s. TEL (tetraethyl lead) was originally researched alongside ethanol as a knock-reducing additive. But ethanol couldn't be patented, so the oil companies pushed TEL. It was killing researchers before it even went on the market. Then it was killing the plant workers when it went into production. Several states banned it outright, including New York, but palms got greased and the industry funded studies proving that there's no public health risk here! The name "Ethyl" could've worked for a shapely, hormone-awakening pinup ad for an ethanol-based additive, without poisoning multiple generations & theoretically spiking crime for decades..........but where's the extra profit in that?

I'm officially old. My primary care physician just announced he's retiring. He can't do that. He's younger than I am. And he is a wonderful guy, dammit. Now I've got to go find someone that good again. sigh.
