The podiatrist is of the opinion it should not restrict me from hiking & backpacking. The options are: - Just live with it (though it will only get worse over time)
- Cortisone shot (temporary relief that can't be repeated often)
- Surgical clean out and treat with orthotics (but arthritis could come back)
- Fuse the two bones (a permanent fix with losing range of motion)
- Implant (essentially an artificial joint, that might last less than 10 years)
I'm getting to that age where things need fixing. I developed trigger fingers in both hands, probably related to the rheumatoid arthritis. I didn't know anything could be done about them, so didn't do anything, and ended up having surgery last week. (Yeah, there was actually one day last week where I was laid up with two big mittens and not madly typing responses on the TPA forum. ) Turns out the surgery was less of a pain than the fact that I had to stop the RA med for two weeks (it's an immuno-suppressant.) Pretty much everything hurts now. Fountain of youth. I'd like a fountain of youth. Actually, I'd be happy with steroids that have no long-term negative effects.

Getting older sucks. The mind thinks I'm still 30; the body doesn't agree. Gear wise, I don't need anything. Altruistically, I wish the country would heal and be less divisive. If only we could work together rather than against each other. Oh yeah; eliminate covid and whatever mutations will follow.

Santa Clause is needed now more than ever, and not so much for the children.
I am very, very concerned I might have done something to get on the naughty list.

there was actually one day last week where I was laid up with two big mittens I was going to ask why you haven't posted a pic of that, but I understand that taking a selfie must have been problematical.

I was laid up with two big mittens I could imagine myself laughing at how awkward that would be, and you being upset with my childish reaction, and me feeling bad about upsetting you. Anyway, heal fast!

I'm happy. I hope all of you get what you want. I'll just settle for whatever comes.

jazzmom, heal fast! Yeah, I could use some miracle cures for old age. Of course, you all know what I most want that I can't have.

Getting older sucks. The mind thinks I'm still 30; the body doesn't agree. Agreed, but a tleast I don't have to get up and go to work each morning. That counts for something. As for gifts, I reallly have everything Ineed. I would like a teardrop camper trailer, but I don't think it would fit in my stocking.

I am, however, having my old Bianchi bicycle repainted, and I'll be upgrading components when it returns. I'm also eyeballing a Ciocc San Cristobal, but that's TBD. Yeah, I'm an old roadie, back when bikes, and a few hard men, were made of steel. Reuben, Interesting, I'm just about finished restoring my 1983 Mercian road bike and converting it into a commuter bike. Had it painted, upgraded components and just waiting for a new stem and some Reynolds 531 decals to come in. It's been a labor of love, time, frustration and money but it's going to be beautiful when it's done. I'll probably be afraid to leave it anwhere out of sight for gear of it being stolen. Not exactly practical for an around town bike.
