This time, it was a tornado warning for the county north of us with damage reported in the Claremore, Oklahoma area.

My inner frugal and environmental self is finally succumbing to the heat today, and I've turned on the AC. The solar panels are installed but haven't passed all of the inspections and stuff yet, so I'll see how the geothermal system does on its own.

Just curious, but did you yourself have that installed, or did it come with the property? From what I've read, that is probably the most efficient and environmentally-friendly HVAC system available.

Geothermal was already here. It was one of the selling points (for me).

Monsoon time in southern Arizona. Here is the river that is usually the street in front of my house.

Monsoon time in southern Arizona. Here is the river that is usually the street in front of my house. I I heard one person was killed in the normally dry Rillito River that flashed after the storm. Our backyard was a four inch standing pool that almost breached the patio doors. Even our backyard desert shrew got flooded out but seems to have his hole cleaned out and back to eating the scorpions and insects once more. Glad we had a new roof done late last year.

I don't think that was the heat Reuben although it was really hot around here. I think he was just listening to the news.

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this heat dome, as we here in “The Other Washington” are kinda still waiting for summer to start.

It was over 100, with a 75 dewpoint, on Monday when I got home from a recent Colorado BP and had to clean and put away gear. It's always a bit of a shock to the system to return to muggy eastern Kansas, but man--I don't think I've sweat that much in one day since I gave up soccer.

rebeccad - can you do Ruben and I a favor? If you have an electric fan, please take it outside and hold it over your head pointing East. If it moves enough PC cool air out here, I'll ask Reuben to send you a bushel of Md crabs seasoned with Old Bay, and I'll send a bushel of Va peaches. Do we have a deal???

I found it interesting that when we were a Brit colony, the soldiers stationed in this area requested tropic conditions pay because of the high humididty during the summer. I still work in this stuff, and it is difficult. But I keep a positive attitude. Right now it's only 179 days until ski season starts for us. Progress. I always look for progress.....

The poster formerly known as orygawn is now somewhere around here as well. DC-ish, I think. Fortunately, I live in a semi-rural area with lots of greenery and not a lot of asphalt and brick, so it's been cooler here than in a city. Of course, it was colder in the winter as well, but... I got a late start to building and starting a new garden here, but I have some homegrown lettuce I can throw in to sweeten the offer.

Let's see... might do more good if I point it SE, since due east would send our cool air to northern New Brunswick. We'll break 70 this weekend, between rainstorms (okay, now I'm just taunting you).

Summer has finally reached Seattle. Temps will crawl up to 90 by Tuesday, then drop back down. Living where I do, breezes off the water keep it reasonable most of the time, and temps drop enough at night to cool the house back off. But “natural cooling” is getting to be less and less a viable option here. (Which very nearly led me off on a TPA rant).
