We got 3.05 inches rain in a slow, widespread drizzle yesterday. That much is rare. But it will work wonders in the coming weeks.

An affluent area of Brazil got 3 months of rain in 10 days. The current death toll is near 100, and the waters won't go below flood stage until the end of the month. Temperatures have been dropping, so hypothermia is an issue. Water borne diseases can't be far off.

reuben, they are having some bad flooding in east Africa, too, though as usual it mostly takes out the poor people. While we were there in Feb we saw how fast the land goes from parched to running with water—I think a lot of those soils aren’t very good at absorbing it. Definitely had the look and feel of flash floods in the US SW.

There were tornadoes in Oklahoma Monday. There was one fatality that we know of north of Tulsa in Barnsdall, Oklahoma. My storm-chasing grandson got caught in the edge of a wedge tornado southeast of Enid, thankfully with no injury or car damage. The closest tornado was 10 miles east of us, 4 miles west of the Arkansas state line and knocked down many beautiful oak trees at a Cherokee community building but did not damage any buildings. It was a tough day and night for us. Our house just got .73 rain. It is tornado season in Oklahoma.

And today, he went chasing again, so he didn't get spooked badly.

Needs to be spread around better. Seattle has shifted, pretty much overnight, to summer. It won’t last, but for the moment, we’re desperately trying to adapt to heat.

The same storm system has been stationary over us for the past 4 days. Stationary, like you can pick out a cloud, and an hour later, it's moved about 1/2 mile. Not a strong storm, just dreary low clouds with occasional showers. 10 out of 10 on the depressing scale. Worst thing about it is that it's been blocking any chance of viewing the aurora.

Not to jinx you, but it's been that way around here for pretty much the last two weeks. Yesterday only produced a little rain, and today it's sunny so I'm working on building the vegetable garden. Tomorrow? More rain. The day after? More rain.

Tornado warning just south of our house near Marble City, Oklahoma. Our grandson found tree damage on Jackson Mountain just west of Marble City. He called me from his storm chase to tell me he saw what looked like a tornado signature even before the National Weather Service put out the warning.

Seattle has settled into a typical late-spring pattern of mostly wet days with some gorgeous warm and sunny days that sucker you into starting outdoor projects that then get rained on for days.
