I just submitted the paperwork to sell five weeks of vacation. I don't have that option, but can carry over 5 days into the first quarter of next year (use by end of March). I still have to use 10 days by the end of this year. The one weeklong trip to Wyoming I planned for the end of August had to be canceled when I broke my ankle Aug 2. I'm still recovering and travel during this pandemic is strongly discouraged, but I'm hoping for a nice extended weekend in December for a trip to Shawnee National Forest in the southern part of my home state. I'm doing some short local hikes now, and discovered I can hike on rugged trail but not very far yet. Still, it would be great to get away for some camping and moderate hiking in southern Illinois. The area actually has a lot to offer.

I think BigLoad said that vacation was from 2019. He can carry over 2020 into 2021.

Well, it was bound to happen. As of last night, I'm no longer conversing with a few close childhood friends, and I really don't care if I ever talk to them again. I just can't take the constant stream of conspiracy theory crap anymore, and it's all they ever talk about. Most unfortunately, my father is beginning to reach that threshold. And in each case, these are smart people... a salutatorian of my high school, an architect, a chemical engineer, a teacher who taught 3 different subjects and was an adjunct professor. I just don't get it.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid a lot of us are in the same boat or will be soon. I think many people have trouble dealing with powerlessness against the threat. It's more comforting to think that it was something which some human had control over in some way, even if it was in a bad way.

I just can't take the constant stream of conspiracy theory crap The fallacy about the conspiracy theory re: COVID is, who has anything to gain from mass deaths, closed businesses, layoffs and travel restrictions, among other things. I guess I can understand thinking it may be plausible it was unleashed by some crazed individuals, but to deny it exists is just nuts.

he fallacy about the conspiracy theory re: COVID is, who has anything to gain from mass deaths, closed businesses, layoffs and travel restrictions, among other things. You apparently don't have any conspiracy minded folk in your circle. Because I can tell for that their answer would be that there is an elite group of super powerful and rich people who want to control the world. These people have and will start wars and other disasters to bring about what they desire.... a one world government with "them" at the top. However, I must say it doesn't help and in fact feeds conspiracy minded folk when some of the world's prominent leaders start talking about something called the "great reset". Do a search on it. Sigh... we live in interesting times.

I don't really dwell on it as it is out of my hands. I think there is economic and political manipulation by the top tier. However, I don't see them benefitting from COVID unless they want to de-populate the world. There are plenty of rouge groups to have their own impact.

But you forgot to mention that a cabal of Satan-worshipping pedophiles is running a global child sex-trafficking ring and plotting against Trump, who is leading the fight against the cabal. Trump won the election by a 60-40 margin but the Democrats filled out millions of fraudulent ballots AND hacked the voting machines. And COVID is a hoax... people really aren't sick, there is no current surge, the positive tests are 90% false positives, and the hospitals are reporting cases and deaths just to make more money. And then it starts getting really bizarre...

I just don't get it. Okay, I need to stop highlighting this stuff (for the moderators), but you're right: Where does all this come from? People who can design buildings, diagnose illness, analyze complicated diagrams and chemicals, diagram sentences in 4 languages, use a spreadsheet on a computer at work, pilot a tank of an SUV (most of the time not hitting anyone else while using every blessed control on the dash, which looks like the control panel of an Airbus A380)
But who are still unable to see the stupidity in a ridiculously farfetched conspiracy theory?******This is a disease which is much, much more serious than SARS-CoV-2/covid19! ETA: There are plenty of rouge groups OMG! The Khmer Rouge is back! And, again, I apologize: Just think of it as a disease - everyone has them! 8^D

Think the vaccines will be good news assuming they work as advertised (just got approved in the UK ... www.bbc.com/news/health-55145696 ,... but hope no one jumps the gun as herd immunity will depend on a lot of things. Still I’m seeing a lot of cabin fever so that’ll have to be managed for those who haven’t got the shot(s) and have a marginal risk, like middle aged types carrying some extra pounds .... i.e. most of them 😈 Still we are waiting on approval in the US with healthcare workers and nursing home residents being first offered the vaccine. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/ncna1249569A reminder that it’s still out there. The WH coronavirus task force is imploring those over 65 not to enter any buildings where anyone has been unmasked for starters.. www.cnn.com/2020/12/02/politics/white-house-coronavirus-task-force-states-report/index.html

Considerably biased manipulative news media sources at each end of the political spectrum, on their loud horns to their public echo chamber audiences. From each echo chamber, perspectives seem valid and convincing to the extent they "don't get" why the other extreme feels as they do. Progressive Activists and Devoted Conservatives have been loudest so dominate those in media like this Moderate which either extreme hardly seems to be aware of or cares to be.

Well another life changing issue with my own life is my Tahoe ski season has yet again been put under a shelter in place at least for the next several weeks. Actually there has not been any surge in the dominant Tahoe skiing Northern California demographic but rather is due to a narrow ethnic demographic and younger age groups in the state.
