Salt, as in Sodium (Na) Chloride (Cl) from one of the food sections flame wars. Sigh, I guess I do spend too much time in the lab.....

There. I've posted off-topic replies to a perfectly innocent thead by a well-intentioned new member which went off the rails into spreadsheets, colors, fonts, and costs we can't read. All from seat 29A on Sky Airline flight 30 on the pad at the airport in Puerto Montt, Chile. Ain't the Internet grand? In all seriousness, sometimes this blows my mind. Especially when I think that my grandmother crossed Washington State in a covered wagon.

Though I hadn't remembered flame wars over salt. What threw me was that "S*LT" and "N*Cl" both looked like acronyms like "STFU" , "HYOH", etc. So instead I was looking for the wrong solution to the riddle. Anyway ...
I don't remember any salt wars in the Food Forum, but I do remember butter vs margarine. Or was it Pam vs butter? Rumi

I am more than a little amused that this has turned into a controversial topic, lol. Better get Steve to move it to the political forum.... :D

Most of what I need utensils for is more of the soup/stew variety. I don't think chopsticks would be much help. How to eat soup with chopsticks: 1)Bring bowl up to your mouth. 2)Sip. 3)Use chopsticks for the chunky stuff. Not so fast, my friend. I also don't carry a bowl--I generally eat out of a bag. So cut (or bite) a hole in a corner and suck it out the liquids and then use the chopsticks for the chunkies....

There was some repeated high volume back and forth over allegedly ill advised high sodium containing recipes. Not the same level of notoriety as some others but I saw more of it's spillover than the P*M ones iirc.

Meanwhile, back to our lists... One thing I did with my list is figure out which trade-offs weighed least--you know, take the warmer bag but one less thermal shirt, or take the super-lightweight bag but an extra fleece sort of thing. What can I say? I can't hike as often as I'd like, so I divert the hiking energy into fussing over minutia about my gear.

One thing I did with my list is figure out which trade-offs weighed least I've found the same advantage with my list. It seemed a worthy goal to try to get the weight down closer to 33% of body weight instead of 40% of body weight.

I've been aiming toward something closer to 25%, though that might be more like 40% of my lean body weight. Sigh. The older I get, the more I like my comforts and the less I'm able to carry them. Is a puzzlement.

I am continually shooting for less than 20%. It's just that I tip the scales more than most of you.
I am still about the same as I have been for the last 15 years, but it doesn't seem to be as organized. I shoot for a 35 pound pack for 6-7 days. Really trying to figure out how to keep it at or below 30.
