Several posts about no eating utensils. Think chopsticks. Easiest thing in the world to make. Really.... Most of what I need utensils for is more of the soup/stew variety. I don't think chopsticks would be much help. (I don't think I've ever forgotten to pack a spoon, but I did lose my spoon on the first night of a multi-day trip once. Oops!)

Others here manage to combine the two in an awe-inspiring perfection of spreadsheetiness. A librarian, ninja or otherwise, should never use words which don't exist. I'm putting both you and your faux mot in my Grammar Geek spreadsheet. In red.

How to eat soup with chopsticks: 1)Bring bowl up to your mouth. 2)Sip. 3)Use chopsticks for the chunky stuff. I was in a Korean place once where none of the employees or other patrons spoke any english. I got some interesting food and some great lessons on how to "eat properly" with chopsticks.

Just unclear why some posted the prices paid for gear here too? Yes am proud of my gear selections, cost me a chit-load for mine, but would never list what it all cost me on a "Do you use a gear spreadsheet" question. Next time I opt to participate in a thread that touches on a topic to which I can relate, I'll be sure to take the time to censor the seemingly uncouth parts of my relate-able material to mind your tender sensibilities. Clearly a screenshot of an Excel spreadsheet with big block boxes over it is a much more informative addition to the conversation than actually showing what said spreadsheet contains. Duly noted. Why do men climb mountains? Well, because they are there.

Amarug, You can spin it any way you want - call it an "informative addition to the conversation" - or "relatable material"... (realizing now that the TR not a gear thread area anyway) ... You just wanted to list how much you paid for your gear. BTW, want a little cheese with that whine? Mark

I don't see any bragging about anything in this thread. Just someone's jealousy over the use of spreadsheets. There is not enough resolution on Amaruq's screen-printed JPG to even see his cost figures. Odd why anyone even noticed them. Odder still that he keeps complaining about it.

I would appreciate people posting their spreadsheets more if they all used pleasing colors in an Arial or Comic Sans font size 13.5 (so that it doesn't clash with my other spreadsheets), costs in a more generic format like European currency, and Landscape. Otherwise, I will just assume you are all jealous of my spreadsheets and trying to copy me or possibly from the government...or you're just bragging that you are more organized than my method of scrounging through bins and bags trying to find enough crud to go on a hike.

Travis, Hey, Not complaining about anything - just an old dirtbag calling it as I see it. Thus in the interest of stirring the pot more - Thoughts: Origional question was - "Do you use a spreadsheet?" Some said yes, others, no...whatever. Some old-timers don't see the need to weigh anything...me too. Best advice... buy the best gear you can afford...use it anyway you want to...get out often...have fun. Never bought into the UL mentality, but...HYOH and all. Weighing down to the gram (IMHO), smacks of that UL Stereotype thread. Have met a few individuals who will go to great lengths to tell you why your gear is so wrong, their's is so much lighter...bla, bla, bla, as they sponge your food. Nothing wrong with assembling a comprehensive list of gear carried. I have one of myself, used primarily for insurance purposes...(long story and a lesson learned). But, if you want to post about how much you have paid/what great gear you use, name brands, etc...why not just start a gear post and say so below - in GEAR!. We could use a few more real gear topics there anyway. Would gladly put my own Sierra kit list up there, prices paid...(pretty proud of my kit too but - to me that could be perceived as bragging). As to your spreadsheet gear list (for weight?)... how many colors, faunts used...whatever floats your boat. Mark

Is it a humble brag that I prefer making piles on my floor to prep for a trip?
Since that references in a so so subtle way to my having open floor space? (New Yorkers will totally get that BTW).

Geeze, Markskor, the more you talk, the less convincing you are. WonderMonkey just introduced himself. Then he started a thread, which several people found interesting enough to respond to. Amaruq posted a low-resolution screen-print of his spreadsheet. You seriouly don't think he put that work into the spreadsheet so he could post it to a forum, do you? It's what he had, so he posted it. The resolution is so low, that unless you are obsessed with the question, there is no way to tell if he's buying cheap gear or top of the line. Other people responded with comments or screen-prints of their spreadsheets. In my opinion, this kind of activity is just what the forum needs. In one thread, we have a new member talking about backpacking and many others joining in. A big "So what?" if it doesn't match your obscure specifications. You don't spend much time here anyhow. And you seem to be the only one who doesn't like the thread and feel the need to keep reminding us of it. Look, I don't mean to laugh, but it's getting kind of silly.
