Westy , thanks for sharing photos with such an incredible diversity of terrain and scenery. I'm especially captivated by the juniper and its incredible bulk. It's impressive, really impressive!
But how sad that Highway 61 seems to be a dumping ground for old cars.

Did you really get kicked out of that marina? If so, that’s an act of war against all of us!

I recognize some of my favorite Superstitions trails. How warm was it?
I certainly agree with DD that the Mazatzals are plenty rough. They were less so before the 2004 Willow Fire.

Great walking photography. Looks like a super year for water on the AZT. It was almost emotional for me to see the East Verde River. My first real teen backpacking years were in the headwaters and northern section of the East Verde near Paulden, Drake and Chino before it reached the AZT sections. This is the time of year to hike that country. I only did one short trip in the Mazatal's, mostly to protest Sen. McCain's opposition to the National Monument. I working from home today as the roads to office are iffy from a spring blizzard. Day and half trip in four days.

autumnmist Highway 61 is a song by Bob Dylan BigLoad Superstitions were a bit cool at night and perfect hiking temperature during day. It was a weekend and the area in proximity to Reavis Ranch had a numerous congregation of campers.
Did you really get kicked out of that marina? Hungry Jack The marina employees are very uptight with AZT Hikers. There is no shower or laundry there. They do hold packages and have rules that you must go to a certain area to resupply. I went to the bar, ordered a glass of beer. About 10 minutes later the bar tender politely asked my to leave and go outside due to my body order. So it's official, I stink!. It's not a hiker friendly place, the campground is awful and it feels like they want you out of sight. Was glad to get out of there.

It's not a hiker friendly place, the campground is awful and it feels like they want you out of site. The trail section steward should put a note on the AzTrail website warning against their overt bias.

The trail section steward should put a note on the AzTrail website warning against their overt bias. I had sent them a check under separate cover as a thank you to them for supporting AZT hikers by accepting and holding resupply packages. I can understand why they want you to sort out your resupply in a designated area. They lady in the store was very unpleasant and troubled to answer any question and the answers were not clear. I plan to write management a letter upon completion and provide them with some preventive steps. Will also take your advice regarding trail section steward. It's a strategic location as the trail from Oracle to Pine/Payson is 160 miles. The only resupply options are a tiny c-store in Sunflower with access by hitchhiking or the Roosevelt Marina which is essentially on trail. You leave with a bad taste compounded by a grueling hike, all up hill for a day as you enter the Four Peaks Wilderness. Styling big time in Payson, Comfort Inn has laundry, affordable rate and Turner Classic Movies. Barber shop, Walgreen's, Safeway, and couple of local bars in close proximity. Hitchhike in took 18 cars and have hired driver for return to trail head on Friday.

OMG, am I embarrassed! And I thought I had heard and was familiar with all of Dylan's songs. My apologies for that blunder.

It's not a hiker friendly place, I guess they prefer those sweet-smelling pseudo-cowboys who drive in with their pickups. I say, wear your trail-stink as a badge of honor. If anything, it shows that you have deserved a beer.

That's about right. I only went in there once and they seemed grumpy then. I usually go to Globe for post-hike operations. Nobody in Globe ever showed signs of a negative reaction to me. Maybe they're just more polite.

BigLoad I am laughingly contrasting this marina's attitude with the one we encountered at a truly nice restaurant at the El Tovar. El Tovar people couldn't have cared less what we were wearing, or how we smelled. 5 of us sat and enjoyed our dinner and were treated to first class service.

I hope the owner gets dysentery. Ok, this made me laugh. I wouldn't wish that on anybody, having tried it once, but it really made me laugh.
