Taking a Nearo day in Kearny. Beautiful desert hiking for four days. Have another short section to Superior and then multiple 100+ mile resupply points coming up. Here are recent pics. Thank you for sharing this trip. I especially like the stock tank shots. I grew up in AZ and they have a certain sacredness. :D

Scary-looking rattler there!
Love the poppies, though.

I'm not a desert guy, but your photos are winning me over. That is a mostly foreign landscape for me as I've only hiked out west once (a little of Colorado and New Mexico) but after your pics and seeing some trail videos of the AZT, I think I need to put part of it on my bucket list.

Crawford- Arizona offers a stunning variety of scenery (as does New Mexico). IMO, there is nothing more beautiful than a desert riparian habitat (minus rattlesnakes), which explains why I am so fond of Aravaipa Canyon. You really need to go see it. There are options for every time of year in AZ. I just had an amazing three days in a wilderness just east of Phoenix (Superstition Mountains) thanks to a very wet winter.
Westy - is that a Tarptent pitched in that one photo? Love my old Squall 2!
Also, is that bridge crossing over Aravaipa Creek along 77? Or maybe the Gila near Winkelman?

Way back when we were first dating, I couldn’t understand why my husband wanted to go spend his spring break in the desert. The next year I was able to go with him, and I became a complete convert before the week was out. It’s a magical landscape, especially in spring when it’s in bloom (which I admit is the main time we go).

Reavis Ranch will be a great camp spot. Old man Reavis was found dead on the trail that leads to his ranch/orchard. There is an off trail marker (cairn) near where he fell off his horse and died.

Westy, enjoyed getting to see you again. I has been way too long since our last meeting on the CDT in WY.
May your feet be blessed.

Westy - there is one dramatic canyon shot above that I suspect is White Canyon northwest of Kearny.
Amirite???

White Canyon northwest of Kearny. This is a shot of the White Canyon entrance I took. I'm not sure if it's just a different view of one of the one's above.
