Luckily, I am female, so I do not poop, fart, or burp, so it's a little easier for me.

I’m just over here scrolling around catching up and I find THIS thread?!
Too good. Reminds me I have to re-assemble a potty kit. For pack out, I have rolls and rolls of those arm and hammer bags for diapers left now that Dean is potty trained. I’ll be those would work great.

I am female, so I do not poop, fart, or burp LOL. Buddy Hackett said that women don't fart, but sometimes they are near dogs that fart...

So, which size scoop? Just wondering how full of it you are. :D ![(rofl)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/rofl.png) I have the Big Dig, it is one of the most perfect pieces of backpacking equipment ever conceived. But there are definitely people on this forum who would need the Mega Dig. Not naming any names. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I do pretty good out in the woods. Sometimes I think I may need a backhoe.

I have the Big Dig, too. Good size, though the Mega Dig came out after I'd gotten the BD.

Wow! I can’t believe this thread has gone on for five pages. Just goes to show how full of it all of us, myself included, are.

Following up: since this thread started, I've been paying a little more attention to such things (at home--I haven't been BPing since then), and you people who say "a few sheets" must come from a different planet than I do.
I start with about 8-10 squares of TP and fold it over on itself a couple times. Any less and it is way too flimsy and might allow my fingers to poke right through the paper. Yuck. Then I fold it over itself once or twice and reuse. It's pretty common to have to start over with another 8-10 squares after that. So it seems that 16-20 squares per wiping event is typical usage. I certainly want to be prepared for more than typical usage in the backcountry.
(Addendum: we do buy "basic" toilet paper. Maybe the shi-shi luxury toilet paper of the rich and famous is way stronger, I don't know.)

So it seems that 16-20 squares per wiping event is typical usage. I certainly want to be prepared for more than typical usage in the backcountry. Start with a new roll and weigh it. Use for a few days and weigh again to get a "per day" weight average. If you estimate need by weight, it will normalize single vs double vs triple-ply and you won't fixate on the number of sheets.

Start with a new roll and weigh it. My new roll, less the core, weighs 2.5 ounces. No way I'm carrying all of that. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Just set aside a roll for yourself, i.e. ask other family members not to use it, and monitor how much you use by weight. I think you get a more accurate estimate by using it normally for a few days and then calculating an average.
