A couple pictures from February 6, 2019 while skiing at Dodge Ridge after a 90 inch multi day storm was waning. Resort base snow depths were over 8 feet deep. This view is just after the ski lift I am riding opened, before the slopes were tracked out. Canon Powershot ELPH 900. It is at about 8k elevation in the Stanislaus River basin above Pinecrest.

Deborah I love the light on the snow. Wonderful pictures. i think a cropping of the first one could be a header image.

Westy . As I looked at your photo from the top, and at first just saw the gloves, I thought "OMG, Westy's stuck in the snow and only his hands and arms are free!" I like the contrasts, the beautiful pure blue sky w/no clouds vs the snow covered mountain pyramids. And then there are your markers...a nice touch of humanity in a beautiful wilderness setting. davesenesac , the first photo is of beautiful snow covered trees contrasting with equally lovely snow pack with multiple curves, as if the snow was sculpted to create the scene. There's such a sense of serenity in both photos. The second photo reminds me of sentinels, "standing tall" and gathering the snow to enhance the intrinsic beauty of evergreens. Deborah , the blend of colors and textures, contrasted by two different sky configurations, is just breathtaking. The first photo even suggests a redrock city, with spires reaching high above the base, and fringed by a fluffy evergreen on the left and literal weeping branches on the right. Each of you has captured a special aspect of winter. Thank you for sharing! I must have missed the earlier photos; I'll start from the beginning and sigh over the uniqueness and beauty of everyone's photos, while sipping a nice cup of hot cider.

Thanks cweston. It was so beautiful that it was tough to take a bad photo. That's what I always say when people praise my BPing photos. I have a decent eye for composing a shot, but I use a glorified P&S and am certainly no "real photographer." Having stunning subject matter helps a lot.

It's not from a backpacking trip...but this arctic winter Chicago has experienced has been pretty spectacular. Mother nature is a master artist.

Deborah, Bryce is beautiful! I love snow on the red rocks; not something I’ve seen a lot, but a few times. Doesn’t look like the hiking was too good, though!

panatomicx, that’s a very simple photo, and some might say hasn’t much of a subject. But the tracks curving out of sight make the photo—very intriguing and alluring!
