Let's hook up for a hike this spring or summer. Fer sure! I can't recall, you are in Gunny?

Fer sure! I can't recall, you are in Gunny? Yes, in Gunnison. Hikes over there are good. Hikes over here are good. Hikes in between are good. I can usually find something any month of the year.

Excuse the relatively poor quality of this iPhone shot, taken this morning in western Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands: Without snow, winter on the east coast can be a drab affair. With snow, the stark palette can lead to some wonderous scenes of form and structure, akin to a pencil sketch. I was on a conditioning hike, so did not have a proper camera with me. However, when I saw this scene (from a viewpoint I have photographed many times before) I just had to dig out my phone and snap off a couple of photos.

Nice Gali. Wonder what it would look like in black and white? Ever do much B&W photography?

A little bit. I think the above would probably work as a B&W. All the ridge lines and stark trees might be accentuated by removing color.

That's what I was thinking. Ansell Adams was a master of B&W. edit: I've posted this before. Taken when I was using B&W film BITD.

Wonder what it would look like in black and white? Here you go:
I think it looks better in B&W. For one, the colors weren't as 'true' as they could be in the original due to the relatively poor image quality of the iPhone. Plus, the ridge-lines do look a bit better. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes. The contrast is better. At least to me. The clouds are more a part of the photo as well. That branch in the upper left leads one to see the clouds.

From yesterday ( trip report up in the Trip Reports section): Pretty much another B&W.

Just when you thought winter was over, this happens. photos.app.goo.gl/fXzjhK39LR2uFk9m7Our cabin is at 3800 feet near Yosemite. Snow level was supposed to be 4,000, but we got lucky...
