2019-03-04 middle fork of Bishop Creek Yer killing me. I so want to be there right now. Do you mind if I save it and print it out? Where was that taken from? I haven't seen a pic of those peaks from that angle before.

I think that it is a zoom from the Chalk Bluff area. During these winter months, I do a lot of XC walking, looking for petroglyphs and antler sheds.

Where have the photos gone? I was scrolling back a few pages and the photos are gone. All still in place when I look. If you are using Chrome, it seems to have issues with images. Do you have little boxes you can click to see them in Imagr?

I'm using Chrome on my desk top, and all of the pics are still there for me.

Yeah, I'm still seeing all of them too. I'm on Mozilla Firefox right now, but a quick check on Chrome and Edge show everything's still there. (Where did my copy of Opera go?) I'm only using Firefox because Chrome has been acting "snaky"/"shaky" for me in the last few months - and esp. really slow. That is really unusual, given my 'puter is a hexacore I7 Alienware Aurora. Everything is relatively fast.rebeccad, I was visiting last night and - for some reason - saw your "leaf" picture (on page 1) for the first time. It's so huge in original config (which config you kindly left access to), I was trying to cut it down to 1920x1080/16:9 format - instead of the portrait format it's in - so I could use it for a background for a bit. I am really fascinated by what happens around such isolated items. I remember a day some years ago when I was running on an early morning, and I had to stop to note that the snow & ice on the ground were melting away everywhere but under the leaves under trees, and, then, the melting occurred at the same slowly changing angle of the rising sun. In the case of your picture, the reverse (apparently) happened - was it a matter of darker leaf color capturing enough heat to melt the underlying snow? Or something else?

Yes, chrome. Clicking on the little box takes me to a blank page of the photo host site. Good to know it's on my end; I'll see what I can do to fix it. Some show up on this thread, but most don't.

gabby, I’m pretty sure you have it right: the dark leaf absorbs more solar radiation, and melts down into the snow. Were you able to get what you wanted with the photo? I can send you the original file, but from the sound it, that was one I forgot to shrink when exporting, so you probably have the original.

I think I do - and I have so many editors for text and photos, and have had them so long that I have a pretty good idea how to get the aspect and size I want. Yes, you didn't shrink the photo, but that's a nice feature if someone wants to use the photo like I was talking about - I'm sure it impacts other issues here, however, like access speed or memory footprint on the host site (this one if you're uploading it here). Anyway, thanks for the response. I always attach some attribution to the file name (photos I "steal" from you, for instance, have "_rebeccad" attached to the name), so I don't forget and "freely distribute" stuff that doesn't really belong to me. IOW, I don't just assume that it's in the "public domain". :^D

gabby, thanks! I appreciate your care for the rights of creators. I don’t feel terribly possessive about my photos, because I don’t see them as commercial quality, but I do like for my work to be credited to me. Realistically, I know that posting pictures on any social media pretty much turns them loose (that’s why our “real” photos are careful to only post small-file versions, or watermark the pictures). But just as with stories and pictures posted on my blog, that doesn’t mean I’m relinquishing ownership!

2020-02-05 Pine Creek Canyon Thanks. Used to know all the peaks in the area from Bishop to Mammoth. Been away too long; can't even name them now.

A couple pictures from February 6, 2019 while skiing at Dodge Ridge after a 90 inch multi day storm was waning. Resort base snow depths were over 8 feet deep. This view is just after the ski lift I am riding opened, before the slopes were tracked out. Canon Powershot ELPH 900. It is at about 8k elevation in the Stanislaus River basin above Pinecrest.
larger sizes than this board scaled down:
Love these photos Dave, if anyone knows I am wondering if the silvery sheen on the snow in the first pic is an indicator of wind slab?
