This is a photo of Mt. Conness and Shepherd's Crest from the upper reaches of Virginia Canyon in the northern part of Yosemite National Park. We'd spent the previous few days hiking around off trail, and this was on our last night, before we hiked back out to civilization...

That tree is fascinating. Notice how it leans and the base conforms to and parallels the slope of the land.

Nice job Dave, but I’ve learned to never expect anything but great photos from you.

That image is from April 8, 2018 at North Table Mountain Ecological Reserve near Oroville. That is also very close to where the horrible fire occurred at Paradise last fall. Rebecca now lives not too far away in Chico so I expect to twist her arm so she and her husband might join me there during a future April bloom. And Rebecca ought to twist Echo's arm to join us too.

At a late 3:40pm was able to optimally capture the image at page top of a small canyon live oak, quercus chrysolepis, amid a riot of dense wildflowers. I had worked this same subject area on previous trips including 4x5 film a decade earlier, but today the subject, especially the dazzling peaking purple owl's clover, castelleja exserta, was better than I'd ever witnessed. Although the processed image is impressive, actually standing at the scene was simply mesmerizing to this person that has seen so much.
The below is another image of that area with the oak across the canyon (blending in) at frame upper right.
I've speculated before that within our vast Universe given what is possible with natural evolution of blue water organic life planets, Heaven exists right here on Earth if we humans would only recognize such as bees and butterflies certainly do.

davesenesac, we are definitely due for a visit to Table Mountain during prime time. The Wildflower Century was I think 3 weeks after that and the flowers were less impressive. We may well be around at the right time next spring, based on plans as they are currently developing.

timpows is up in Medford now so not far from there either. He posted shots of hiking up the Table Rock area there recently.

This shot was taken in the Gates of the Arctic National Park in Alaska back in 2006. My wife & I flew into a remote spot of the park by float plane, and spent a week scrambling around the mountains at the headwaters of the Atlatna River. This area has the Western Arctic caribou herd migrating (during August & September) from their summer grounds on the North Slope south through the Brooks Range to their winter grounds. We were there in mid-August. During the week we were there we would scramble up the ridges & peaks, and just watch for caribou. Most days we'd spot herds of 50 to 250 caribou meandering south, sometimes in the valley bottom and sometimes up on the ridges (like this photo). This particular photo was actually easy to set up because we saw this little herd coming from about 500 meters away, and figured they would be coming right by us ... so all we had to do is stand still and let it happen. Once they passed by in a great spot for the background I just held the camera shutter button down and blasted as many images as I could, and kept the best one. The Gates is a pretty incredible part of Alaska. Flying into a remote spot (140 miles from the nearest road) is an exhilarating experience ... especially when the caribou cooperate!

Sounds easy when you describe it like that, but getting into the right position for the right moment is more than 80% of wildlife photography. Great shot!

This photo is of Cecile Lake...west of Minaret Lake, nestled beneath the Minarets. September of 2019. The trailhead is out of Devils Postpile NM.
I was just going to head back down the trail and a gal that worked at Reds Meadow asked if I wanted to do the Minaret-Cecile-Iceberg-Ediza lakes loop with her. At first I said no. (A man fell to his death at Iceberg Aug 2019.) But then I agreed. The most difficult section was beyond this pic, traveling around Cecile, then dropping 500 feet down to Iceberg.
