it seems a reasonable precaution would be to test first for susceptibility rather than publicly condemn the vaccine as "useless" and "dangerous". I think if you read back through MagicMomma's posts, you'll find she hasn't really condemned anything, she has just said the shot isn't for her.

I have not gotten a flu shot yet. And I have not been sick for lack of one. But none of that is because of any strong opinions about the topic. I really don't have any. I don't recall the shots being recommended for everyone, and I don't seem to have ever been in the most at-risk categories where the shots were recommended — even with the "swine flu" (H1N1) of 2009, as I recall. In some years, in my area, there have simply not been enough doses available for everyone. I live alone in a rural area with no close neighbors. But I see and communicate with a lot of people every week, though I'm rarely in "close contact" or need to shake anyone's hand. And I do practice the recommended habits of personal hygiene that tend to lessen the chances of infection. But, maybe I've just been lucky. Such is life. It's something to consider. I've never gotten a flu shot. I work by myself, "outdoors", well actually just unfinished houses, but I've only gotten the "The Real True Flu" ~ 2 times in the past 30 yrs. It's a million less times less likely to have complications from the vaccine, than to have complications from the flu. But for MM to link flu shot's to GBS is like linking Autism to MMR vaccinations. There's no links to the enth percentile.

I've gotten a free flu shot every year at work for about 20 years, and haven't had the flu in all that time.
The last time I had the flu my fever spiked at 104. I was so hot my eyes hurt, and so weak I had to rest in the middle of taking a shower before going to the doctor.

I get my flu shot every year. While working as an epidemiologist I saw a number of deaths that influenza played a major part. These were not the very old or young but previously healthy individuals that did not have any identifiable risk factor. Just because you have not had influenza does not mean you will not get it and that because you are currently health it will not be a problem.
