These probably aren't my best. But two of them are right up there, and one is chosen for the meaning it has. Okay, this one may actually be one of my best, though it largely represents a bit of luck. We were traveling up to Chico (CA) in February to visit the in-laws, and came on this flooded almond orchard.
This one has some flaws, but I was pretty pleased with what I got, using my new camera. I liked the effect of the flowers in the foregound, with a still-recognizable peak behind, despite the low light. Glacier Peak, WA
And this one is in a different category. It is my husband and his parents, at ages 87 and 90, hiking a canyon in Anza-Borrego State Park. They have been traveling to the desert, usually together, since sometime around 1960 (and with me since 1994). This maybe have been the last trip.

Your Finger of Light looks like it should be in Rivendell. Really great shot, even if it is multiple shots. Agreed. That shot is stunning. Really unbelievable work.

rebeccad I remember you posting that orchard shot before. So beautiful and well composed, plus the luck of the water! I love everything about it.

My ability to share photos is limited and I'll not say that this is one of my best of the year, but it is one of my favorites because the phone took a bit of liberty with the color. I'll take it...ha.

tallgrass, those are all really cool! I recall the Milky Way one from a discussion of star shots (in the Random Photo thread, maybe?), but wondered how long an exposure you used, and if there was special equipment involved (I don't see any sign of star movement, which suggests either a relatively short exposure or fancy tracking stuff like SWT uses).

Viewed at 100% crop, there's faint star trails. Nothing fancy, 12mm focal length, f2.8, ISo 3200, and a 20 second shutter.

My favorite 3 photos from 2017, in no particular order. Each year I try to take a trip to the eastern Sierra for fall colors. Haven't been there for a few years, but this year I made it. This was taken in a parking lot of a ski lodge. Anybody familiar with the June Lake area knows it well. I just liked the colors taken before the sun hit. I drove by in the afternoon and took another photo, but preferred this. As many times as I visit Yosemite, this was the first time I captured this "famous" tree in front of Yosemite Falls. Felt the BW was a better choice than color. Another photo from my Fall Color trip. One of my favorite stops is Convict Lake. This was taken an hour or so before sunrise. I liked the fact that the stars where still visible.
