foxalo, I really hope you're on your way to recovery. You have people keeping a close eye on you, right? Yes. My family is quarantining with me, but my husband is about to take my daughter to or beach condo to quarantine, because there is still with to do there. My one son will stay home with me, and I have several friends and co-workers checking on me, too. I also had my husband get my mother-in-law's pulse oximeter to have on hand just so I can monitor if things take a turn. Sitting at 97, but I started coughing a little more today, so that could get worse. I have learned that during all this, I need a room that has a comfortable chair to sit in, as well as the bed. Isolating in a bedroom without a chair is no fun. Sitting in bed is bad for the back.

foxalo, I hope you recover soon. Is the beach condo very far from you?

foxalo, I hope you recover soon. Is the beach condo very far from you? It's about 4 hours. I look forward to going there after Christmas. I haven't seen the place yet except in pictures. I'm feeling about the same today, no better, no worse, except I have a nasty headache, but I suspect that's from caffeine withdrawal, since I haven't had coffee since Monday. Green tea just doesn't cut it when you need caffeine, but really shouldn't have it. I will go back to drinking coffee when I am better and can taste it again.

If you consider getting shot at, and getting run off the road by the Amish interesting... then you are correct. :D Tuesdays run was tame by comparison. The only interesting tidbit is that I forgot BOTH my reflective vest AND my flashlight. D'oh! Thankfully, only 3 cars passed me (I got well off the road when they did). I also saw a couple of shooting stars... so that was nice.

Sad news. A baby (2-year-old) elephant at our local zoo died. Apparently there is a common herpes virus that infects elephants (current thought is that it is latent in all elephants), and it is often deadly to baby elephants. Common time from onset of symptoms to death is 24 hours! Our baby died 2 HOURS after onset. That's one NASTY virus.

Really sad. I hope the elephants aren’t being put at extra risk of this virus by being in the zoo. And hope we aren’t encouraging another cross-over virus!

walkswithblackflies, back in my Seattle hiking/scrambling days, we referred to terrifying bits as “kinda interesting.” By that standard, your runs are kinda interesting.

That's so sad. I've always thought baby elephants are so cute, and so precious. Hatari was one of my favorite movies!
Since there's apparently knowledge of the virus, I wonder what precautions could be taken to counteract it, or test for it before birth?

autumnmist I’m pretty sure that is the biggest problem. It is present in all elephants now, so testing doesn’t show anything they don’t know. Instead it seems they need to find a way to prevent it from going active.

Good Friday morning. Christmas is next week... I can't figure out how that happened. Panic mode.

Last night I ran the high-elevation hills while my daughter was at horse lessons. I started right when the temperature plummeted and glazed ice covered the roads. I thought about turning around, then it started a mix of snowing, sleeting, freezing rain... which stuck to the roads and actually provided some much needed traction. The wind was so strong it literally took my breath away, and nearly knocked me down a couple of times. But when I turned around, it was nice to be pushed uphill!
On the work front, although company PTO policy is "use it or lose it", the boss is allowing me to roll over my PTO to next year, so I won't lose the 60 hours I can't take due to workload. Woo hoo!

jazzmom, I refuse to worry. Xmas will happen whether I do anything or not. walkswithblackflies, good of your work to allow you to keep the vacation days you couldn’t use because of their demands! </sarcasm> Seriously, though, I’m glad you’ll get to keep that time, to use when the country opens up. I’m thinking that next summer, when vaccination is wide-spread and things can open up more, there’s going to be a lot of people making a run on the time-off supplies!
