Wow. What a gorgeous cat, echo. And since it belongs to the neighbor, you get all the good parts of snuggling, but none of the nasty litterbox and hairball parts. It's a win! Tomorrow will mark 1 week we've been home since our trip to the Grand Canyon for the husband's Rim2Rim backpack with a friend and 4 new backpackers. It was a great trip, and all the newbies did great. I enjoyed my time alone on the South Rim. But it feels like we've been home for weeks now -- so weird. I have to say Good Night rather than Good Morning - hope you all have a great Monday!

Good morning.
It’s our first frost of the season this morning. Such a strangely unseasonal place I live in now. After so many years here you’d think I’d be used to November’s with green grass, light frosts and a few red leaves, but without even owning a jacket heavier than a hoodie now, it never feels like November to me.

It’s high time someone here had a good morning again! We got some proper weather yesterday, wind and enough rain to run the wipers, if not to measure. I have a “new” piano that I hope won’t break the bank to fix up enough to play. Free is never free, is it? 😂

Good morning,
I’m not sure how it can only be 11. It feels like at least ten hours since her school started today at 8:30. I kind of knew she wouldn’t be allowed to keep going as they were, one teacher and two kids for 9 hours in zoom each week. So the other teachers noticed and contract issues of unequal demands on teachers in a unified district meant shuffling. Today started with her trying to obey me without actually letting her new teacher see her, covering the camera or angling the screen, while mumbling, “I don’t have a new teacher.”
Fortunately the teacher was patient, funny and relaxed and the other kids included the one who had been with her plus several from library or kindergarten. By the end of the time I saw Daisy slip her a chat message that said, “ok Mrs Teacher, Ikm starting to get used to your class, but I’m not sure I’ll ever get completely used to it.”
We got five inches of rain yesterday, and my husband overcompensated this morning by cramming the woodstove before he left for work. So I was melting and now have fans on and doors open. But the woodstove even shut down tightly will keep cranking out heat for hours yet. We have one much more efficient than the one we had for 21 years and remembering to account for that kind of falls away when one of us is on autopilot.
There are always free pianos around here, kids don’t learn it much now and the repair knowledge is an aging base. As a music teacher, Greg was offered several each year but the only tuner lived in Medford and only came over a couple times a year. I don’t know, but if you can’t find one in your area, he might go that way every now and then.

echo, There is a piano tuner in town, and Wednesday I’ll get to find out the damage. Glad to hear Daisy is coming around. This kind of change is hard on kids, but as you say, it had to be done. Probably couching it in terms of fairness might help Daisy reconcile.

Busy, busy, busy lately.
I got out for a run yesterday evening while my daughter was at horse lessons. It was an all-out blizzard above 1000' (about 2/3rds of the run). On the way back, at lower elevation, I ran by starlight.

Bad news on the piano. Tuner doesn’t think it’s worth the vast amount of work it needs. I’m debating getting a second opinion, but having looked at prices for labor, I have to agree with him. I can’t see getting away for less than $6-800, for which I could buy a rather nice used piano.

Interesting walkswithblackflies I’m always fascinated by the edges of storms, like how you can be in a blizzard one moment so thick you have complete white out of the world more than an arm length from yourself, and then the next moment there are stars overhead. Here we get washed over by heavy rain and often have rain out the front door and sun in the back, but when I first moved here that would seem unbelievable. rebeccad sorry about the piano, if you don’t fix it, I hope it doesn’t cost much to dispose of it. I’m feeling oddly happy, I keep smiling and feeling relaxed, like the day I’ve planned for and know will be perfect in something big like a long anticipated trip or Christmas with family I haven’t seen in a few years. I wasn’t sure why I feel this way, but I’m enjoying it. Then suddenly I realized it has everything to do with realizing that whatever next year brings, it won’t be Trump. I know it’s not morning, or the political thread, but I’m waking up hopeful again.

Lake effect snow bands are very defined (horizontally). I remember one day, I had to shovel our driveway in the morning. 1/4 mile away, they had green grass!

Good Morning.
The start of Thanksgiving week means we did a school meeting this morning and then are done until a week from today. Kind of strange having a “vacation” to go nowhere and get out a school you don’t really go to. But then I also got a letter saying Daisy would be suspended for 5 days unless she has a first grade physical. She had it and the paperwork just kind of got lost in between transferring classes, but I had to laugh at the concept of being suspended from a school she attends in our living room.

rebeccad , sorry to learn that the piano might be too expensive to repair. Pianos have a special place in my heart. I think that I found my tuner through Grinnell's, but that was years ago. I'm wondering if a music school might have suggestions. Someone has to tune their pianos, I'm sure. I wasn't aware you played though. Are you self taught? Took lessons? The only good thing about family being in rehab as they aged and recovered from illnesses was that some of the facilities had pianos. One had 4! Of course I went for the baby grand, in the dining room; there was also a player piano in the activity room, and 2 spinets, one in memory care but I don't recall where the 4th piano was.

autumnmist, I took lessons for about 10 years, until I graduated from high school. That got me to a place where I could play for fun, though never brilliantly. It’s been years since I played at all regularly, but I just felt like it’s time. I’ll figure something out.

While it may not be morning here on the East Coast, it is still morning everywhere else in the US, so Good Morning to all of you on this fine Thanksgiving Day.
I rode the bike for 2 hours, and have settled in to my chair for an afternoon of football watching. Dinner will be around 6. The pie is made, and we are only cooking 2 thighs this year since we have no visitors. OK by me. I don't need the endless leftovers for sandwiches, or repeat plates from today.
I hope everyone is healthy, and not gathering in large family groups. Stay safe out there!

I hope people had someone to celebrate with and something to be thankful for. We had the four in our house here and several long phone calls. It felt odd. Thanksgiving, even more than Christmas is when I miss certain family members the most. Still, most of the day was relaxed and I was feeling well so did a lot of the cooking and cleaning. The girl dressed to match her dessert

Dressing to match my food is something I try to consider. That way, when I spill on myself, it doesn't show :D
