1. The North Cascade absolutely rock, as always. The number one mountain destination in the lower 48, in my book.
2. Mary Jane's organic BP meals are excellent--I especially liked Thai Fusion, Red Pesto Pasta, and Pueblo Stew.
3. NCNP has a LOT of bears.

Mary Jane's organic BP meals are excellent--I especially liked Thai Fusion, Red Pesto Pasta, and Pueblo Stew. A life-long friend lives in Bellingham not far from the North Cascades. Have an open invitation and will take advantage of it for sure!. We are big Mary Jane fans - Our favorites are Shepherd's Meat Pie and Cheesy Noodle Casserole. Great! Just kidding before--the North Cascades suck. (And don't even get me started on what crappy backpacking there is in the Gore range.) |

Yeah, I guess I need to curb my enthusiasm about "my" spots. . . . Not at all. I'm in favor of spreading the enthusiasm around and having fewer pilgrims to a single "Mecca." The North Cascades are great. And northern Colorado was among my first backpacking choices when I lived in Laramie. |

That's pretty funny, because it was a good friend of mine that took an Outward Bound trip to the N Cascades in '69, that helped me and a good HS teacher start our own "Outward Bound" style backpacking trips. One of my best friends had a summer home above Pinedale and by 1973, I already had ~ 4 months of bag nights in the Winds before I even had time to really explore the region. From 1981-1985, I lived 1/4 mi from the Gore Range Wilderness boundary and hiked there daily. This is all to say, these are not "new" areas and have been there forever. |
