Not as often as I would have liked. Ditto, but I did knock one off my backpacking bucket list.

I did about 1 months worth, most of it in one trip over summer between work projects, instead of a wkd here and there. It was great and I really didn't want to return to "town-life" anytime soon for any length of time ... save for showers, laundry, and consumables (though winter may have changed that)

Good question to ask as the year wraps-up. Since January 1, I managed to spend 40 days outdoors--hiking, backpacking, kayaking, and skiing. I'm hoping to get in at least two or three more days of hiking or skiing this year. Looking back, I'm actually surprised I got out as much as I did this year, since I worked a ton of overtime during the first six months, and had a bunch of weddings I had to attend over the summer. Let's hope 2017 is even more active!

I try to always be satisfied with what I am blessed with. The one gargantuan trip to the Greenland Ice Sheet alone was more than enough to satisfy me...but yes, I got a few hiking trips in as well.

This year saw my lowest trail total in many years. I'm sure I didn't get more than 50 miles combined. Working the night shift and having a three year old has killed my spare time. I'm hoping that next year improves things in that respect.

Two significant backpacking trips, a camping trip and killer dayhikes in Maine, and for the rest, mostly biking. Oh, and I forgot the urban backpacking trip to Angel Island in the SF Bay. And the desert trip in March had 2 overnight mini-backpacks.
I guess this sort of thread is good for helping me remember all the amazing trips I really did get to have!

Sigh - 2016. This was the first summer (in the last 2+ decades), that I didn't get 90+ bag-nights out overnight, somewhere in the high backcountry. Unfortunately, instead I was "stuck" working in Yosemite, conveniently housed behind the Tuolumne Meadows Store, from June 1 to September 15. It was tough!
Selling beer and groceries to all you damn fool hikers... "living the dream"...barely got in 20 days of good wilderness fishing.

206 miles and 43,500 vertical feet March thru July. Zero after that. Had major figure skating volunteer commitments. Not to mention an increase in Mr. Mom duties and support.

My wife & I managed to backpack and dayhike just over 1200 miles this year (140 days on trail). Lots of terrific (& varied) wildlife sightings ... with a couple of interesting close grizzly encounters thrown into the mix for real fun.

I got in about 170 miles on the Arizona Trail in March. I started on the Mexican border and headed nobo.
Then it got hot and some medical stuff and now its Christmas. I have plans for 2017 like getting back out on the AZT and hopefully a week in Colorado in July and 2- 3 weeks of backpacking in the U.P. of Michigan in September/October.
I don't know Carrie Fisher personally, but it troubles me to see someone only 60 going down hard with a heart attack. We lost one of our pickle ball players in the retirement park I live in last week on the pickle ball court. He was fine, playing like usually and just dropped down on the court and never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at the hospital a few hours later. Steve was 76. I need to get some more hiking in.
While I can.

Not as much as I would like. Only one multi-night and a couple of day hikes.

Wife and I have done 231 day hikes so far this year. Some were in Wisconsin, Michigan, Tennesssee, and Colorado in addition to more local west central Illinois and my home state of Missouri. (about half were kind of local and the others were "not so much"). No BPing, had a new knee put in December 2, 2015 so I didn't want to push it with a lot of weight on my back/knee. We did do a first day hike to open 2016, but it was only about a mile and a half locally because of the 29 day old knee. That, for me, might have been the best one because I could actully walk that far on somewhat uneven terrain. By mid February I was pretty much good to go as long as I took some knee stops and didn't push too much on hills. By April I was able to do six miles two days in a row in the Ozarks, but had to really take it easy day three. Knee still clicks and gets a bit sore, but, hey, it's way better then what I went though fall 2015.
The day hikes ranged from about three miles to eight miles. Found some not used too much trails in RMNP in July after talking to a local we met on a hike. That was good. A bit harder then some of the more popular ones, but we didn't see many people. We have several favorites we like in Wisc and Mich so we visited those areas three times (10-12 hour drives one way) this year for a week plus each trip to day hike (sping, summer, and fall although the fall trip was two and a half weeks).
All-in-all, a good year.
