Just dropping in to say hello, as suggested by the intro stuff. Yep, I guess im that nerd that reads and follows directions....sometimes. Anyone, long time outdoor enjoyer here, grew up in Ohio, still live in Ohio. I come from a hunting family, who spent lots of time outdoors so that is nothing new to me. The overnight backpacking thing, is new. I own several horses and have frequented a lot of state parts and forests via the saddle, still i must say my favorite way to travel, followed by hiking and riding the RZR with my hubby. I own a doberman who is a frequent trail buddy, as well as a not so trail worthy companion, my dachshund. Looking forward to grabbing every bit of info i can off this site. Between facebook pages and the wide wide interweb, I feel I have no excuse for not trying to educate myself. I am not all that tough, so i gotta be smart. =o)

Howdy, and welcome, from Florida! How do you feel about: Bacon? Brussel Sprouts? Okra? Kilts? Scotch, of the single malt variety?
There will be other questions, but that is all for now. Feel free to peruse the pinned thread in Gear, and drop by the Women's section should you feel inclined. Lots of good info here.

Welcome from another instruction follower (sort of)! I pretty much a newbie to backpacking also but not the great outdoors. My feet are keeping from anything more than extremely short day hikes right now, but I'm working on that. It's a neat community here, so enjoy all their knowledge!

Bacon? Brussel Sprouts? Okra? Kilts? Scotch, of the single malt variety? Bacon, HELL YES. And to quote Ron F**king Swanson : “I can't think of anything more noble to go to war over, than bacon and eggs.” and "fake bacon is garbage bacon" Brussel sprouts: tiny cabbages made edible by butter and salt?? Okra: mommas favorite southern fried food. Kilts: amazing Scotch: “Clear alcohols are for rich women on diets.”, personally I enjoy a lot of alcohol variety is the spice of life. Rum. Whiskey...sketchy home made wines........

Welcome from SoCal. zeke and rebeccad are forum moderators, so be nice to them. Seriously, though, they are good peeps.
Feel free to post up with any questions or concerns. We are basically a good natured group compared to other forums I hang on.
edit: lived in TX for a long (too long) time and loved fried okra and fried clams.

The commie loving skirt wearing Louisville fan is a moderator? WTF happened here? Heeh heeh.
I do not know Ohio but had a wonderful fall foliage experience in Gambier a LONG time ago. I don't "own" any horses anymore but family on a Ranch close by do. Can you pack any of your horses?
Scrappy may the trail rise up to meet you. Keep your stick on the ice young lady,
John
