Hello exuberant new poster!!! I am originally from NW Ohio, moved to Columbus for a few years (where I discovered the wonderful past time of backpacking), and then moved to Colorado in late 2007. So, here I am in my dream outdoor state, and I rarely backpack anymore. Life happens. That will hopefully change next year. But welcome! There are many great places to backpack in the Midwest, but for Ohio, you need to head to SE Ohio, KY, PA, Southern IN or hit the Appalachians. You have options. They just can be a bit of a drive. So, welcome!

Wait up a minute! So some new kid shows up and gives a moderately positive statement about Okra and I'm expected to welcome her with open arms? I'm just supposed to take that kind of a statement laying down? Okra kills, people...remember that. I don't know what to say about this. Some of you have really changed. (I'm inserting an imaginary snarky face here, but there isn't one to my liking in the emoticon section, so this will have to do)
Oh yeah, welcome to forum Scrappy! Hope you find some answers here (obviously not from me) and enjoy the discussion. Ohio ain't too far from PA, so I suppose I can overlook the okra positivity for the sake of some geographic solidarity. Besides, your response to bacon made me tear up a bit. Truly beautiful.

Welcome to the campfire! Love your answers. I hope you find our community a warm and gracious one. If not, we'll take them out back and beat them...me included. Indeed so far a VERY welcoming community, i do not join forums lightly, as ive been on some super bummer ones, angry, jaded folks with little to no real input for anyone, let alone someone seeking genuine assistance. Not afraid to hear it how it is, truth is truth, it doesnt need sugar coated, but theres no need to be an asshat about it either. I dont feel that will be an issue here. ;o) Gambier, as in near Danville?!?! Also known as Brinkhaven?! If so, I am shock! I live, not ten min from there. Ohio's longest covered bridge and bragging rights to amazing fall foliage. As for the beating of members, that sounds like it could be fun...i mean... nooo no dont do that. hahaha. I have never tried to pack either of my horses, I dont have the proper equipment, or the occasion i suppose, yet to do that. But they are both, fairly, agreeable equine, i dont suppose id have trouble getting them use to the idea........prolly like it better than hauling my ass around, i promise my gear would weigh less. LOL Thanks to all for the warm welcomes! cant wait to explore and interact more on the boards..........when im home ;o)

NO KIDDING?!?!?! Id LOVE to get to CO someday...... there and montana high on the lists. dream lists. I am headed to Wayne national the end of this month, that will be my first time hiking there, Im attempting Archer's Fork in the Mariette section> Ive rode horses in the Ironton area before. Totally new to this area....also taking...a more newbie than me....with the chance of rain the days we head there. LOL, smart choice, maybe not the best, but i promise ill learn some things and have some great stories no matter what! I got to indulge my, obsession with the AT this year for the first time, taking some parts of it in SNP, i was HOOKED. One scramble up Bearfence MTN and I was ADDICTED, and bruised, and all too aware that I am 1)short 2)out of shape 3) Scrappy...... and there the trail name was born. With ambitions to hike as much as possible, looking forward especially to the AT, and to gain my name there....too perfect. The Raccoon part......well....I am much like a raccoon. Short. Round. Dark circles around my eyes on occasion..and determined that I can and will get into whatever i want....... LOL!!!!! Okra, condensation, leather boots... stop the madness. this, this right here......LMFAO. it was my mommas fav veggie.cant say that its mine.
