I actually lucked out, though it's not the happiest story...
I started having serious problems with my ovaries, but I'm considered too young for a hysterectomy. Doctor said it will screw up my hormones. So instead, my system was shut down. My ovaries don't make eggs anymore so I don't have monthly cycles. Fixed the problem.
Downside is, now I cannot ever have kids, which I'm actually okay with because I've never really wanted to.
I'm 34 years old.

I recently underwent a couple of procedures in the hospital. Good news...no malignancy detected. Bad news...my hot flashes are back with a vengeance, averaging more than one an hour/24 hours a day.
Add that with the 105* temp and no air conditioning. Good times

hikerchick395 - Good to hear there is no malignancy. Bad to hear about the hot flashes. And no air conditioning. I can't even imagine ... You can come and visit me, if you want. It's 100 here, but at least we have central air. Plus I totally understand the snarly crazed female that menopause seems to bring out in many of us! (well, ok, me for sure ...)

hikerchick395 you know there's always a welcome at my house! And you may have seen that it is in the 50s here, with lovely fog. It has definitely been too sunny in the Sierra the last week or two! Very glad no malignancy. Hot flashes suck. I'm whining again, because still no pause to the meno. At least it held off til the last day of the packtrip, mostly.

Menopause is great -- my wardrobe of sleeveless shirts and tank tops (which come in many beautiful colors BTW) is growing by leaps and bounds. It's also really good for the environment, as I am washing my face and showering in cold water and air-drying my hair, which has to be saving tons of electricity, right? As I told my husband: This is the summer of the ponytail.

I've always air-dried my hair, but I know what you mean about liking cold water more ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Though I'm still fond of a hot shower on a chilly evening (and all our evenings are chilly). Wish I could find a better way to channel that core (over)heating down into my toes, which still get wicked cold, especially when biking.

That is the only symptom I seem to have, the overheating, and I used to always be cold. Now though the heat really centers on my back, as soon as it touches sheets or a chair it is like its resting on a heater. I love going out in the cool of dawn now and just letting the morning breeze cool me a bit but I never get cold.

I'm a newb here but I almost spit out my coffee when I saw it. Thank you!! Never thought I'd be so grateful for some meno-solidarity lol.
I'm 46 and last year started some peri symptoms. I'd have awful hot flashes a few times a day, super heavy flow, then nothing for 6-8 weeks. Repeat. I actually found that hiking helped relieve a lot of these symptoms, especially hot flashes - they vanished. And I was losing weight as I hiked more.
Then things changed. This spring I had one big flow. Then my hot flashes changed to minor ones almost every hour. Hiking hasn't changed anything and now I dont drop weight either. Hello there meno-pot belly.
Luckily I've always had very easy/minor periods and cramps so I'm hoping this transition will be as gentle. My mother said she basically went menopausal over night. If minor hot flashes and a little meno-pot are the worst I get I'll take it!

It's hard to get a good night's sleep when you have to put the covers off or back on every 30 minutes...

It's hard to get a good night's sleep when you have to put the covers off or back on every 30 minutes... Pretty impressed you're only un- and re-covering every 30 minutes. I do my counting in seconds ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Although for some reason my hot flashes seem to have abated in the last couple of months. Not that I'm complaining, you understand. It's just confusing ...

My son is cold and cranks up a fire in the woodstove and I get so steamy, with our rain the air has been waterlogged and all my heat seems to gather up my spine and in between my shoulder blades so if I'm under the blankets it becomes a sweatlodge but as soon as I kick off the covers the fire goes out for the night and I sleep well for a couple hours and then wake up shivering, from then on its the every half hour on and off
